"The government is making analog absolete, not SDTV's. Ethan seemed to have felt that would lead to making SDTV's obsolete." i know. that was my point. I suppose my wording was kinda sketchy though.
and there's probably advantages besides less disc switching. though they're probably pretty minor.
food for thought: if ethan's misguided thought that the government was forcing SD TV into obsolescence, there would be serious rebellions attempting to destroy the US government. if you need me to explain why than you're one or more of these a. naive b. republican c. boomer
have you ever heard somebody complain about having to spend money?
that's the point here. just because your baby boomer double-income parents are buying you one for christmas regardless of the price doesn't mean that price-tags don't exist.

"I've never heard anyone complaining about a CPU being too powerfull, " clearly you've never owned a powermac dual G5. those processors create more heat than the sun XD. so innefficiently but amazingly powerful. one of my proccessors fried once and I had to replace my motherboard as well as one of the proccessors (fortunately under warranty)
also can I bet money that your parents are the biggest baby-boomers on the block? or maybe you're the baby boomer, and are actually really old. XD

in conclusion, you're what sucks about capitalism now gtfo of my internet.
"Unfortunately, I believe Sony has made it a requirement for all games for PS3 to be pressed on Blu-Ray encoded discs. It would be easier for us consumers to have them transition, or have smaller games be on DVD"
do you have a source for this?
in the sony press conference at E3 they made it seem like they'd do exactly what the PS2 did with DVD, slowly transition into it. granted that press-conf isn't exactly known for not withholding info.
"Dude, Siirsp do you know what a search engine is, if you do go to one right now (my favs are Google and Yahoo!) and type in HD standard in 2009." this guy trusts search engines as his primary source of information. XD
It's best to just compeltely ignore him and his posts. XD

now about blu-ray.
this isn't another UMD.
blu-ray backers:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blu-ray_Disc_Association
HD-DVD backers:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HD_DVD
(last sentance in the first paragraph there)
this isn't betamax, where it's superior but nobody uses it, this isn't some stupid proprietary thing like UMD.
also, blu-ray has PS3. the HD-DVD 360 attatchement doesn't even work for games.
it'll be a good format war, but I'm definately putting my money on BDs.

Joystiq Poll: Blu-ray, yay or nay?
Jun 16th 2006 1:42AM (Joystiq)I don't even know where to get started on your retardation.
first of all, look up the definition of obsolete.
second of all: switching out of analog != switching out of SD TV
third of all:
"Its government issue, okay, its gonna happen."
yes, like SO MUCH ELSE the government does.
