Ghostbusters on PS3 lags behind 360 version; developer explains
Jun 18th 2009 3:53AM (Joystiq)HOWEVER, it seems very obvious to me that in this case the developer is the one at fault for the poor graphics, not the PS3. There are simply too many games that are high quality and indistinguishable to try and build some fanboy case off of this.
As far as "potential", I do believe that in 3-4 years games that come out on PS3 will be capable of better graphics AND performance than games that come out on 360. I think the PS3 does have the potential and that the longer they work at it the better they will look, and that the 360's more straightforward design will hit some limits at some point and not be able to keep up.
BUT, IMO it just doesn't really matter. By the time we get to that point, we'll be ready for new consoles. If Sony's ambitious design decisions cause the machine to take years longer to reach it's potential and causes it to launch a year later, it seems to me that MS made the better choice (though this is obviously much easier to see in hindsight).
For me, the graphical differences between the two will never be great enough to make much of a difference. I prefer the 360 for what I feel is a better thought out set of hardware (obviously excluding the reliability issues which are a shame, but I far prefer the controller, the add-on keyboard, and the general look of it to PS3) and a MUCH better thought out set of OS functions (MS makes things standard whereas Sony leaves more things up to the individual devs to implement... music replacement, parties, anti-aliasing, copy ANY game to HD, no mandatory installs, achievements from the start and in every game, no wacky PITA half thought-out motion controls to deal with, etc).
BUT, I can certainly see that people looking for a game/movie machine combo would have found PS3 very attractive for a time when it was introoduced. Nowadays you can get better Blu-ray players for $250 though and they are much more efficient and nicer to look at (and hear) while playing movies.
Anyway, these are just my opinions... people like what they like, and there's certainly nothing drastically wrong with PS3. Just a lot of minor things in MS's favor that I think add to the 360 experience. Specs-wise I believe they are near enough to equal to make the comparison not very meaningful.

Kojima says MGS: Peace Walker is his MGS5, calls Rising a 'different kind of action' game
Jun 16th 2009 12:53AM (Joystiq)Kojima says MGS: Peace Walker is his MGS5, calls Rising a 'different kind of action' game
Jun 15th 2009 5:45PM (Joystiq)I have a 360 but no PS3. I have zero interest in a game with 5 hours of cutscenes (I don't want to play movies, I want to play games), but if this article is saying that an upcoming 360 game will be more "action oriented", I might be interested...
Help?
Bionic Commando grappled only 27k sales in May
Jun 15th 2009 5:39PM (Joystiq)I'm not sure if they should have released a single player demo or not. They have a real problem with this game, and that is that the swing mechanics take a couple hours to get the "feel" for. Once you do they are awesome. I'm not sure most people downloading a demo would understand that... they would likly just get frustrated and cross it off the list.
The other issue is that your character is pretty pitiful in power initially. It takes a while to build into the great game that it is. I'm not sure that people today have the patience to stick with it for a few hours until they can control it well and have enough powers that the fun really starts to kick in.
Anyone who didn't buy this game based on a hairstyle is dumb as wood in my opinion. How shallow are you people??? It's cool and moves in the wind, which helps show the inertia of the swing mechanic. Grow up.
I will definitely say the game lacks a certain amount of "polish". The crappy controller screen during every load sequence. The deaths in ankle-deep water. Nearly instant death by radiation (why not just let you get back on the path?). No way to view the cinemas outside the game. Can't build your character up through multiple games. Can't go back and get missed collectibles or challenges,
The last one means that if you want to complete everything you almost NEED to use a strategy guide. And the one that's available isn't very good (I hate Prima).
But overall I would give this game an 8.5. Graphics are great. Gameplay is mostly great. Story is average. Definitely worth playing.
Pachter: Project Natal and PlayStation Motion Controller won't topple Wii
Jun 8th 2009 5:59PM (Joystiq)I just don't understand the excitement unless we're talking about some party games and whatnot. Why anyone would want to use this for an FPS or Gears of War is completely beyond me.
Pachter: Project Natal and PlayStation Motion Controller won't topple Wii
Jun 8th 2009 5:52PM (Joystiq)I can understand wanting motion controls for certain games. But I hate the idea of playing a nice, normal game and then having to stop and be forced to shake something or spin things around and crap like that.
If the controllers were separated I would have bought a Wii a long time ago... Super Paper Mario and several of the other games on Wii are very interesting. But the whole idea that they have to slap some kind of motion into each game is just garbage and completely puts me off the idea.
The same applies to Six Axis on PS3... I don't want it.
It's not that I'm against motion controls, but I believe that the games that should use motion controls are differant games than the ones that should use regular controls. Don't mix them up.
Hands-on: Resident Evil Archives
Jun 5th 2009 6:06PM (Joystiq)Hands-on: Resident Evil Archives
Jun 5th 2009 6:03PM (Joystiq)I'm sorry, but Capcom cannot be held responsible for people not understanding the term "archives".
Hands-on: Resident Evil Archives
Jun 5th 2009 3:05PM (Joystiq)- This isn't the ONLY game Capcom is making for Wii. It's just an additional option. It's not like they did this INSTEAD of creating a new game... if this weren't being released, it would just be one less game.
- The older games can be hard to find, especially if you like your games in good condition.
- Making this widescreen would have required MAJOR work... all the backgrounds are pre-rendered at 1.33:1.
- Who gives a crap about waggle?
- Who the hell is forcing you to buy it?
- They're not claiming it's a new game or anything.
- Just because YOU are not interested in it doesn't mean others aren't. Why should they be denied the opportunity because you think this is a bad deal?
If you have no interest that's fine, but the wraith and hatred being spewed forth because they have the "nerve" to release this is really over the top guys.
Personally I would LOVE if they released RE4 on Xbox 360, even if it wasn't upgraded.
Get a grip!
