The Daily Grind: Still interested in console MMOs?

Feb 19th 2010 10:55AM (Massively)
Blizzard could probably sell a dedicated WoW console and charge $500 for it if it wanted to. Then they would would have complete control and not have to worry about someone else's patching schedule and limitations.

Editorial: What could Apple's new iPad mean for MMOs?

Jan 29th 2010 2:46PM (Massively)
The iPad is for fashion-conscious wealthy women and gay men, like all of Apple's products. I bet my mother would like something like this for playing Bookworm and browsing Facebook (even though it is overpriced and underpowered compared to even a netbook, let alone a real low-end laptop).

The winning "browsing and e-reading" device will be a successful cross between this iPad and a netbook -- something that has both a touchscreen and a keyboard that can fold back. I can't imagine doing word processing or anything that involves even a moderate amount of text input with a giant on-screen keyboard taking up half of the viewable area. And for a lot of tasks a mouse is still better than a touchscreen.

Modern Warfare 2 intel captured in latest Game Informer

May 12th 2009 11:04AM (Joystiq)
I just didn't like the sh*t that the Infinity Ward guys were talking about Treyarch and World at War, which turned out to be a really good and fun game. Treyarch never had anything bad to say about Infinity Ward. The guys at Infinity Ward may have a lot of talent, but they don't have any class. Well, hopefully Infinity Ward creates another good game, even if they are a bunch of egotistical pricks.

Modern Warfare 2 intel captured in latest Game Informer

Wow, sounds like a really lame excuse for not having co-op. Looks like Treyarch has one-upped Infinity Ward as far as co-op goes.

Joyswag: Fable 2 'See the Future' DLC [update]

May 12th 2009 9:07AM (Joystiq)
In 5 years I see myself working in a crappy job that I hate in order to pay the bills, while in my spare time escaping from the reality of my mundane and soul-crushing existence through videogames. Believe it or not that's taking an optimistic view of things since I'm currently unemployed.

GamePro: MGS4 'one of the greatest games ever'

May 28th 2008 3:04PM (Joystiq)
I agree that no more than a 5-point scale is needed to communicate anything as subjective as the overall quality and entertainment value of a videogame. In general, anything that gets a 4 or 5 is something I may be interested in. 3 or less I will normally skip, unless I have a good reason.

A difference of less than about 10 points in a 100-point rating scale between two games reviewed by the same publication is mostly just random subjective rating noise. Most 100-point rating scales are really in effect only a 40-point 60-100 rating scale the way most reviewers use them. A score from 0-59 means a game is utter crap. We do not need 59 rating points to fool ouselves that we can accurately tease apart fine gradations of crap. In the 5-point scale, you just give those utter crap games all a 1 and move on.

Hayashi: Only 10 percent of ninja lifestyle in games

Mar 31st 2008 5:25PM (Joystiq)
I'm sorry, but this guy is wrong. I have it on good authorith that the sole pupose in life for ninjas is to flip out and kill people. For proof, please see this website:

Sierra and Radical Entertainment remove multiplayer from Prototype

Mar 29th 2008 9:34PM (Joystiq)
Well I'm sure since they're not including a huge game component like multiplayer/co-op, they'll be reducing the price of the game accordingly, to say $40 instead of $60, right?

NPD study: Hardcore gamers spend more on other media

Mar 12th 2008 5:05AM (Joystiq)
NPD research is a farking joke. Their definition of "hardcore" gamer includes people who play Scrabulous a few times a week on Facebook, or who play free Flash games on the internet during their lunch break. If NPD ever did research on "hardcore" music fans, their definition would probably include people who listen to the radio in their car while driving to work. That's not hardcore, and in fact it is the very definition of casual.

How to ruin Christmas using only a 360 box and some clothes

Mar 2nd 2008 5:48PM (Joystiq)
Even if it's true that it was a punishment for sneaking a look at his present ahead of time, and they really did give him the 360 later, it's still crappy parenting to take the video and post it on Youtube. His parents shouldn't be surprised someday when they're old and they need his help and support, and he tells them to go f*ck themselves.
