DisplaySearch says netbook sales will slow as ULV laptops get cheaper {Engadget}
Dec 30th 2009 10:28AM So wait... Small low voltage laptops will sell less because people will be buying slightly larger low voltage laptops... Can we PLEASE get rid of all the different titles? They're all laptops. Small laptops, big laptops, desktop replacements, netbooks, notebooks... All laptops. "ULV laptop" is ok, because it's not unnecessarily changing the name.
The only portable computers that deserve their own name are tablets and UMPC's, which have very obvious form factor differences and purposes. Netbooks are just smaller underpowered laptops. We don't call a compact car by a completely new name, they are just compact cars! Let's try to come up with a new namr for it right now. Compact cars are now called "roaders." Wait, giving it a special name is annoying and redundant? BUT HOW WILL WE DIFFERENTIATE BETWEEN NORMAL SIZED CARS AND SMALLER, UNDERPOWERED CARS?!?

Dec 29th 2009 8:59PM This looks far more promising than I had thought before the video. However, the one thing that's going to kill it for me is paying separately for the games on top of a subscription fee. Seems to me that they should just take their share of the revenue from the sold items and leave it at that, or strike deals with publishers to pay per stream time, so that a flat monthly fee would allow you to stream games with no additional costs. $10 for X hours per Y, $20 for unlimited, etc. I'd consider it if there was a reasonable subscription that included instant streaming to the whole library. I understand that would be incredibly unrealistic from a business standpoint, at least at first, but hey. Them's my two cents. Them's and

Dec 29th 2009 8:55PM while it's not intended to be limited to the way I would use it, this is how I would use it: Subscribe to the service every now and then and use it to rent a few games in a month. Spend $25 or so and get to play through 3 games in a month. This would be a great way to play a game for the system you don't own. Though I do agree with you, that buying games on this service is just not cool. At least with Steam, the game stays on your PC, so even if Steam shuts down, the games are playable offline (until your hard drive craps out and you don't back up your data).

Dec 28th 2009 11:53PM that's actually a fair amount of day one purchases if you think about it... at $60 a pop, that's quite a bit of dough. I've gotten really cautious about day 1 purchases over the year, cause prices on anything less than AAA titles (even some AAA titles) have dropped like flies this year. Dead Space dropped to 50% within a few months after it came out. Fallout 3 is worth nothing on eBay now because of the DLC, and it's not even a year old. Bionic Commando (underrated btw!) is dirt cheap. That's $180 right there. I coulda saved at least $100 by waiting around a bit.

Dec 28th 2009 11:47PM I totally agree. I also really hate it when people use the word "backlog" with gaming. That is a term used for paperwork. Not games. When they say "backlog," I feel like they are just plowing through these games just to get them over with. I dunno... why buy so many games that they pile up? Buy them one at a time, eventually, they will start going onsale by the time you get them. I went through the reserve everything phase, and I am SO glad I'm done with that. $60 is way too much to spend over and over again to call your pile of spent money a "backlog."
This is the same reason I quit Gamefly. I felt like I had to play more than I wanted to in order for the service to be worth it. I ended up rushing through games just to get the next one. It wasn't fun.

Dec 28th 2009 11:42PM I'm pretty interested in the PS Motion Controller too. If devs use it well, it could really add something awesome. It's the only reason I've kept my copy of RE5 around.

Dec 28th 2009 11:39PM I don't have words.........How can you put down Bayonetta for being generic and then gush over God of War... that's completely the opposite of the facts. Bayonetta, whether you like it or not, is FAR MORE UNIQUE than GoW. That's just the art, enemy design, pretty much everything but the gameplay... and the gameplay is no less generic than God of War.
"MErrrr, those are rentals at best," guess what? I think God of War games are rentals at best. Now let's switch roles -- because my opinion is that God of War games are "rentals at best," I am right, my opinion is fact, everyone who disagrees with me is factually wrong, and I am very cool because I talk about stuff on the internet. I am tmac.

Dec 28th 2009 8:31PM I never understood these low res projectors in this day and age. Maybe it's just me, but I'd much rather buy a small HDTV or monitor than a big washed out near standard def projector.
Though, I guess if you have no HD formatted anything, no digital cable, HD video games, Blu-Ray, or even a decent computer, I suppose this would be a pretty cool way to play NES. ^_^
