EA takes on Steam with Origin, the only place to download The Old Republic

Jun 3rd 2011 10:54AM (Joystiq)
I've dealt with EA's online store before. I have never been more annoyed with any digital download. Imagine if you will. Buying a game, then being told that they will send you the code to download the game. The current queue is 36 hours. So I bought a digital download game... And was told to wait 36 hours for a code. It took them 3 days to get it to me. This wasn't some kind of special arrangement or favor they were doing. I literally bought the game from their online store. Their servers were a nightmare and barely functioned. Their website was a joke. It literally would not accept my password 50% of the time. And on top of it all, they would not guarantee that you could redownload your purchase. But they were happy to sell you protection for up to ... i don't remember a year or something for like $10. What a joke.

I'm sure this service will be marginally better than that, but I made a promise to myself and at the time.. God... that I would never buy online from EA again.

XCOM inducing singularities on March 6, 2012

Jun 3rd 2011 10:16AM (Joystiq)
Does anyone think that the idea of "Taking their technology and using it against them" is going to be way lamer than they imply? I mean, in X-Com it was awesome... Literally prying weapons from their cold dead hands. Literally dragging dead bodies back to the base for disection. In this, I imagine it'll be like every other FPS where you get minor scripted upgrades here and there until it becomes... boring.

It wasn't always this way. In the olden days we youngens would push a wall and get a double shotgun or curl into a ball, drop explosives under us and go through a secret passage to get extra missiles. Or even drag the rotting remains of a roswell gray back to the lab to make weapons out of their kidneys.

Oh, rant rave blah. I'm a sucker so I'll probably give it a try. Hopefully I'm completely wrong.

Lunch Topic: What animal should Blizzard add to the WoW bestiary?

Moose and Squirrel... Flying Squirrel.

Breakfast Topic: How was your first Cataclysm heroic group?

Feb 11th 2011 10:17AM (WoW)
So, my first heroic was stonecore. It turns out that was a bad thing. We wiped 5 times on the first boss, but killed him. It was awesome. Luckily it was both mine and the tanks first, so we just worked through it. I believe we lost 5 healers and 6-8 dps. Eventually we ran into the big elemental guy and couldn't get farther. Not bad considering it's one of the harder heroics and it was our first time. So that jaded me.. I found out later that a good number of heroics are MUCH easier.

Breakfast Topic: What part of you does your character represent?

Jan 18th 2011 10:38AM (WoW)
I remember, I was in late burning crusade stuff and I didn't have to check his gear because the symbol is unmistakable. The tank was using the Aegis of the Scarlet Commander. Not even kidding. We all called him on it, but it was BC stuff, so we didn't wipe :P

Drama Mamas: The case of the gold-selling guildie

Jan 14th 2011 3:36PM (WoW)
Forget all those crazy explinations. Bust him down to the lowest level so he no longer has guild bank access. He can do what he wants from then on, but it should be very clear he no longer has any access to the bank.

I have even more bad news for you. He's lieing about his disability. It's the same old **** different day. The excuse is always, "I am on disability" "My mom beats me" "My son is starving". This person is no different than the rest of the beggars and thieves who take advantage of the weakness of good people.

Breakfast Topic: What's your proudest WoW moment?

Jan 6th 2011 11:20AM (WoW)
I know this is cheap, but why not. Ragnaros, dead. Just a small guild with barely enough skill and gear to get through Molten Core at 60. Multiple failures at 50%, 40%, 20%,10%, 4% 1% 1%.... DEAD! The world exploded. I have never heard or seen or felt anything like it in a game. 4 months of running MC. Gearing people up, getting them keyed and teaching them the rules. 4 months of having to do everything just right in dungeons. Unbelievable relief. How many nights did I stay up into 4:00 in the morning just to finish it up. Still brings a smile to my face.
