DS releases for the week of October 20th

Oct 20th 2008 4:04PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
Woah... I think we're gonna need a dumptruck to "shovel" all this "ware....

DS Daily: Motherly love

Oct 20th 2008 4:02PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I've been a huge Earthbound fan since the original game came out, so the wait for Mother 3 has been... quite difficult for me.

Which probably makes the experience of playing it now, in English, on my GBMicro for the first time, just so much more satisfying. It's just as good as I expected, and probably the best game that will be released this year (if you can count it.)

Suikoden Tierkreis getting localized with a quickness

Oct 17th 2008 7:21PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
Just hope they've fixed up the horrible english font and horrible english voice acting before then, otherwise I'll just have to play the undub and fix the font myself.

God am I ever bitter these days.
DON'T DISAPPOINT ME AGAIN KONAMI.

Mother 3 fan translation available this week

Oct 15th 2008 2:44PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I'd rather play a free fan translation than a corporate cash in anyday. I've already got my (totally wicked awesome) copy of the Japanese Mother 3, so legally, I'm all set.

And if NoA actually released this in English, in any possibly form, it's just too late. They forgot about the fans, and the fans should forget about NoA.

Goodbye, GBA

Oct 6th 2008 5:44PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I just actually bought "another" GBA Micro the other week. Got the Famicom 20th Anniversary one from Play-Asia while it was on sale. Great little toy :P Also picked up a copy of Magical Vacation for $6. So many great Japanese GBA games that still haven't come out here, so with my flashcard and hopes of further fan translations (whooo, Kaio-Shin!) I'll be playing GBA for years to come, whether NoA likes it or not.

DS releases for the week of September 29th

Sep 29th 2008 4:53PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
Here's a quick review of Sonic, it's crap. Feels like a budget title, really, some of the sloppiest programming I've seen on the DS to date. Bad transitions, framerate problems, horrible sound effects in battles, sloppy and inconsistent graphic work (especially the 2d stuff for the menus and "tutorials"). It could turn out to be a decent game, but I won't be able to bring myself to find out.

DS Daily: Graphics revisited

Sep 21st 2008 9:10PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I really love simple 2D graphics. 3D always seems to have this tendancy to go towards the realistic, which really takes away from the experience for me.

And since I love 2D, I find myself playing a lot of GBA/DS and older consoles, old pc games. I really liked a lot of games on the Gamecube and PS2, but nowadays, games just don't have the same appeal for me, so I've gone back to playing old games again (kind of like when the N64 and PSX just came out, and all that was being released were crappy 3D games. I just played a lot of oldwarez for a while.)

Metareview: Lock's Quest

Sep 20th 2008 1:27PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
IGN: "Inspired and Original"?

Someone hasn't played Warcraft 3 or Starcraft. Tower defense was completed invented years and years ago. This game is just a good ripoff.

Suikoden: Tierkreis to feature 'rich' online experience

Sep 18th 2008 7:33PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
Go and watch the videos of ds.ign.com. This game could win an award both for worst font of all time, AND worst voice acting in a ds game.

Where's the quality control these days?

DS Daily: Re-Quest

Sep 14th 2008 1:12AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
Dragon Quest 4 on the DS is amazing. It's too bad that the DQ4 DS US localization is amazingly terrible. Sure, a lot of time and posibly effort was put into ruining the characters and traditions that the old players are used to, but it was pure lazyness that SE had to pull a NamcoBandai and completely remove the party speak feature for the US version, not to mention censoring certain parts of the game.

For those of you not familiar with it, the party speak feature let you talk amongst your party in the game, rewarding you with hints on where to go next, and really fleshing out the characters of the game in a way difficult to read accents never could. And it's completely absent from the english version of the game.
