Revisiting PvP in Age of Conan, part 2

Aug 3rd 2009 6:37PM (Massively)
The problem with Age of Conan is that what the game was advertised to be and what is was were two very different things. When they would demo the game they always showed hyborea as this cohesive world interconnected and rarely instanced. In reality it was more like classic EQ or Guild Wars then what it was advertised as, zones were small and heavily instanced, and with in a single server there may have been 15-20 different instances of one zone that players could jump in and out of at any time. When you add this to the fact that the hardcore PVP that was promised was removed shortly after launch and the advanced crafting systems that were talked about at E3 were noteably absent, this left players with a bad taste in their mouth. All and all AOC is an alright game but nothing I would play especially after Funcom Lied to the public.

Opinion: Why I can't go beyond the first 5 mins of Call of Duty: World At War

Nov 10th 2008 5:27PM (Joystiq)
While you're article is sure to inspire some feelings of sympathy from some Joystick readers let me tell you my story.
I am a third generation Chinese American, my family having fled shortly after the Nanking massacre. As you might expect, I've grown up on the stories of my grandparents, and how when the Japanese invaded they used children they found as bayonet practice, and how they executed pregnant women in front of their grieving families. Your points on the topic are a bit biased I think, and the fact of the matter is, the Japanese committed some of the worse war atrocities WWII had seen.

my favorite unappreciated mmo is swg in it's modern form. Although it has been abused over time, it still holds and odd type of complexity and houses one of the greatest mmo communites i've ever played on.
