PETA's fur-hating, law-skirting, super-cute animal game

Mar 28th 2008 5:10PM (Joystiq)
You know what, fuck this.

I can't have an intelligent conversation about anything in this community without getting a "fuck this", "fuck that", or "fuck you".

So now it's my turn. I'm fucking out of here, because I'm sick of being talked down to and sworn at by some anonymous shithead who thinks he's better than me. Fuck off and die.

And Gabe, don't let the bastards grind you down. Sorry to have all this shit as a reply to your post. You're good people.

Actually Synner, those choices do affect me, you and everybody. Hummer drivers consume more fuel, which raises fuel demands. Fuel demands are the driving force behind prices being so high, which is starting to really affect other markets. Our lifestyles have a direct effect on others, as our shitty driving, eating, and living habits have lead to an overdependance on fuel, corn, and who the hell knows how many other things.

We're seeing some of the first food shortages in the Western world in hundreds of years. The proverbial shit has hit the fan, my friend. We need to take our blinders off and toss the Dennis Leary attitude. I sincerely doubt we're going to see a future like Idiocracy or Blade Runner any time soon, but it's very realistic to expect that we won't have all the freedom and lovely material diversions we do in fifty, or even twenty years time.

Aha! Looks like it was, indeed, too early in the morning for me. When you dropped the sexism card, I thought you were talking about the game, as opposed to PETA's previous marketing practices. Unfortunately, since sex does sell, I think their marketing ploys are pretty effective.

On a side-note, I've noticed something interesting about PETA. They seem to have two main modes of conduct, and member structures; the "activist-chic", who show us pictures of chicken farms and take off their clothes in adverts, and the personal property destroying activists. Rarely do the two cross-over, and while the latter is sometimes funded, but often just inspired by the former, attacks on personal property seem much based on class rather than ethics. I suppose it comes down to the rich being the only ones who can afford giant fur coats and earth-destroying hummers, but it's somehow easier to swallow when one of their possessions are destroyed, isn't it? Huh.

Anyway, back to the marketing... they do generally irritate me, though I think it's more due to their association with PETA than anything. Nothing bothers me more than to see millions and millions of dollars go into an organization who's platform is to point at things and yell "no", instead of actually getting involved in the process at a fundamental level. Such a waste of resources.

Completely unrelated: Why on earth did people vote my first comment up? It was only a question. This community gets weirder by the day.

Blatant sexism? Really? Pardon me if it's just too early in the morning for my brain to work properly; I'd really like to know where you're getting that.

Uh, actually, the dodo was hunted into extinction, meaning the same kind of desirability that you're placing on chicken and furry animals. I'm far from a PETA supporter, but that's some pretty flawed logic, man.

Sega confirms Sonic Unleashed after video and screenshot leaks

Mar 24th 2008 6:05AM (Joystiq)
That's what I was figuring as well. I'm that, as much as they've been able to mess up Sonic games in the past, even Sega would realize how silly a wolf/hedgehog sounds. With any luck, it's just an unfortunate name for his state.

Otherwise, it's basically admitting either their dislike for the Sonic character, or their inability to design a game around him, and really should have just made a wolf game to begin with.

1982's Custer's Revenge cited in modern op-ed violence piece

Yeah, I was just about to point that out. I think we should be more concerned with our society's need for constant wars, as opposed to how to keep little Timmy's hands off a 2-bit porno game from over 20 years ago.

This guy always bothered me, really. I wonder how his hatred for games manifested. Maybe he flipped out after seeing his kids playing something violent, and suffered flashbacks of some sort. Then again, he more than likely just saw a dollar sign in becoming an "expert".

Well, here's day four's entry. Please help me stop playing PS1 games from 1996!

Check out 17 minutes of Persona 4 footage

Mar 20th 2008 7:59AM (Joystiq)
With all the news about the Persona series as of late, I started up a new game from the original PS1 release. Can't wait to get 3, and I'm happy my investment in it won't end there, with 4 coming down the pipe.

If only I could find a copy of Persona 2 lying around though. I've played it, but was never in the position to pick it up.

Rapper wants you to quit gaming, get laid

Mar 20th 2008 7:22AM (Joystiq)
Hell YES!

I was going to say something about The Human Video Game, but I had no idea Del did a serious (more serious anyhow) rap about gaming. Del's amazing. I hear he's a coke head though, which I hope is just rumor.

3030 blew my mind.
