Ok, try not to hate. I own all three next-gen consoles. They can all be a lot of fun, but PS3 has REALLY DISAPPOINTED me thus far. Hope you're reading Phil, but your PS3 needs help (Again, I ACTUALLY own a PS3). I can't wait for FFXIII and MGS4, but it's going to take a whole lot more than those games to win the war. FYI I'm posting this via my Wii.
The terms modular and framework are terms we often hear of in the world of object-oriented programming. Essentially it means that building something is easier because basic toolsets exist which one can build from. Modular simply means that one can transfer a certain design to be incorporated into other objects. For example, if a basic face design was created, it is modular in the sense that it can be used on a different character, but more superficial features can be changed, like skin tone, eye color, etc., whilst retaining the basic polygonal elements which construct the skull, cheeks, chin, etc. All it means is that a programmer doesn't have to build each and every object from scratch.
Alright now, this new dashboard is great! Boot to dashboard? Check. Continuous music player between apps? Check. Menus a bit faster? Check (but mainly when streaming music, at least for me). Oh and my 360 remoted has been de-gimped. It was driving me crazy that I couldn't speed-scroll through my 1000+ songs streaming from my computer, I would still grab the controller and hold the right trigger, somewhat defeating the purpose of using the remote in the first place. Did I forget something? Oh yeah. The background downloading is awesome, the crippled 360 syndrome really sucked. Nice job Micro$oft, now back to Table Tennis, Juergen Rulez!
