Breaking! Miyamoto laments violence, lauds cheap technology

Oct 21st 2008 2:14PM (Joystiq)
I guess you guys like to skip ahead and not read what people have already said.

Your logic isn't faulty, it's just the wrong angle.

The Wii is still selling like hotcakes at the original price that it has always been. The XBox Arcade is cheaper now, but it just got to that price recently because of a business decision from Microsoft. Why would Nintendo lower the price if people are still buying it just as quickly as before? When I bought my Wii, it was cheaper than the (nerfed)360, thus making it true to what Miyomoto said in the quote.

It's also funny that you would bring up extra expenses, since I believe the arcade doesn't even have any memory, thus making you also spend extra money (more than $20, I'm sure) to be able to save anything.

As long as we're getting into this, I must also point out that there are other factors aside from computing power that go into what a console is worth. I know you won't acknowledge this (because you're in love with your choice system, literally in love, I bet your 360s have fuck holes in them), but anyone who is neutral within the fanboy kingdoms couldn't ignore the difference in quality between Microsoft and Nintendo hardware.

Please try to be smart, Jack and Megadan I know it's hard, but at least try.

Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon coming to DS in '09

Hell ya, online duels would be awesome, especially with voice chat. Letting friends borrow characters is interesting, I can see little kids during recess selling their characters like they did with Pokemon. They need to do that with FF Tactics Advance, I thought they did, but apparently I was mistaken

Soulja Boy tells 'em he wants to make video games

Shogun, please give credible references for this and I'll be happy to believe you. Of course, getting straight As in this country's public school system isn't necessarily a hard task... Also, a "hit" song is one that was popular, not one that says "hit single" on the little sticker on his album cover

Sony uses Nintendo tune to welcome PS3 to Malaysia

Sep 23rd 2008 2:01PM (Joystiq)
It doesn't really compare in the real world, but I see what he's saying because Nintendo and Sony are direct competitors, which some people I suppose would consider to be "enemies" and make far-fetched analogies like comparing them to Nazis and Jews (very far-fetched).

The Zelda theme could argueably be considered Nintendo's "national anthem" and for Sony to play it at one of their events as one of their bigwigs is walking up to the podium is pretty much a slap-in-the face to Sony, or maybe they don't give Malaysia that much credit and are trying to ride the coattails of Nintendo's success and don't think the Malaysians will notice... either way, this is confusing and I'm curious about how it came about.

Goreful, a better comparison would be the Cowboys playing the Redskinss theme song as their coach walked up to be interviewed after a game. People would definitely wonder how and why that happened

Soulja Boy tells 'em about Braid

Modern rap has sold out. Anyone who isn't already established as a quality rapper (some people here probably don't think there is such a thing) just puts out some stupid dance song to make money.

This guy did nothing more than put terrible, incoherent lyrics onto a catchy beat that someone he knows made and that people like to dance to in clubs/jam to on the radio/etc.

I don't even think most people know what his hit song is about, definitely not subject matter a respectable woman would dance to. And he won't get as much as you think, his record label will make the majority of the money

And for the record, Souljah Boy owes Ice-T, if it wasn't for people like him, noone would listen to the crap that gets put out nowadays. Ice-T shouldn't waste time responding to or even paying attention to anything that anyone on Souljah Boy's level says

Metareview - Mario Super Sluggers (Wii)

Aug 28th 2008 5:24PM (Joystiq)
This is after assuming that Super Sluggers is indeed the exact same game as the last one. Now, I haven't played it, so I can't say whether it is or not, but I would find it hard to believe that it is exactly the same.

Vcize, you made good points, the problem is that I was mainly talking about gameplay specifically.

Besides, the features you named for Madden can't really count. Hot routes have been around for years now, practice mode and audibles have been around since the 16 bit era, many people don't use the vision passing system because it's awkward (although I do give them credit for trying something new), and so no. Madden adds a bunch of new features, but the question is "was it worth it?" cuz most of their new features just seem like a scapegoat so that when they get called out for putting out the same shit, they can say "well we added X and Y feature" but they don't comment on how crappy and tacked on (where have I heard that phrase before?) those features are.

Just as you named new characters, items, boards, etc for Halo. I'm sure the new Mario baseball has all that as well. (I really hope so, otherwise I guess I am giving them too much credit). That's what new games have come down to these days for the most part. The same shit as last time, but with new plot twists/characters/weapons etc. Honestly, I don't mind it at all, but it pisses me off that people want to pick and choose who they call out about it just to support their little fanboy wars, when it is rampant in the industry. That's all I'm saying. I am a Nintendo fan, because I grew up playing it, but I'm not gonna use arguments that could be used across the board to support one side.

I hope that none of the people on here who are commenting about Nintendo "rehashing" or "copy and pasting" their games plays any of the following: any action/platform game, any strategy game, any FPS game, any sports game, etc. If you're looking for something different from any of those genres don't hold your breath. For the record I play many games in those genres and love them, but I'm not gonna sit here and act like any of them add anything new that other games or earlier versions didn't already have.

Just out of curiosity (since I have only played through the first one) what can you do in MGS 4 that you can't do in MGS 3? Is there more difference than just better graphics and a new story with accompanying cutscenes? Because if there isn't, anyone who loves that game has no business bagging on the new Mario baseball game. What about Halo 2 and 3? Maybe Disgaea 3 has more than 2 then? Ok, what about the Madden games? Any worthwhile differences found yet? Perhaps the new KZ will have way more features than the first one did. I'll hand it to Rockstar, the new GTA 4 has a lot going on around you, but it's funny how you actually can't do nearly as much as you could in 3, nor are their as many weapons, interesting. I love NG 2, but I'll admit immediately that aside from better graphics, it pretty much feels like an extension of the first one with some new weapons thrown in and a few too many combos that aren't really that different.

So tell me friends, how can you justify the stupid shit that you've been saying so far? Knowing that pretty much every IP that comes out nowadays is, for the most part, the same old shit that just looks prettier than before?

Stop hating on Nintendo because you want to feel more mature/you want to justify your favorite system not doing as well. It's been old for a while and now just looks pathetic.

You need to wake up, every developer does that. It's too expensive to try something different at the risk that the target audience won't like it and you just spent all that money making a game that isn't selling.

The Mario Scarf: Wear World 1-1 around your neck

That's funny, Mario went to the moon in Paper Mario: the Thousand Year Door for the GC. After Mario Galaxies, I think he needs to go to the netherworld next. Maybe give him a couple chain swords like Kratos. Let's see what Nintendo does with that!
