In the vein of transmutation stones, how does gear work in this game? It almost sounds like one would want to do some content (?) to get the gear for the stats they want, then do Hearts for cosmetic purposes?
I admit, Transmogrification is clouding my understanding here.
Would anyone be willing to buy that statue for $50?
I get that Charr are the games figurehead race, but I really don't care for a Charr statue (Norn would have been great!). I want the art and the book and would be willing to pay $100 for the whole deal without the statue, so if I could sell Rylock, I'd be happy.
Still, without a sub, I'm happy throwing at least $80 at Anet without blinking for this game.
"That's what she means by "soft trinity"--it exists, but rather than dedicating specific classes/specs to the roles and requiring at least one of each to be in every party "
Yes, this is the point I have issue with. If you have concluded that you will still need to spam "L4Support role" when composing a group, then the article has not done GW2 justice.
Again, read the Lewis B article that even Elisabeth says is good material. He explains what Support really means in the context of this game and provides clearer evidence of how there is no "soft trinity".
In describing this soft-trinity interpretation of yours, not only have you shown you don't fully understand the combat mechanics in GW2, but you have further damaged this trinity debate by perpetuating this incorrect belief from your highly visible soapbox.
You cannot spec to tank and you cannot spec to heal. You can spec to favor support but you cannot spec to be a Support class. You can spec to favor control, but you cannot spec to be a Control class.
You will be doing support, control, and damage as the situation demands it. All three; ebbing and flowing. Traits just make you a little better during the times you have to do the thing you are best at. Not your profession. YOU.
In summary, if you think the dependence on someone else's ability to heal you will make or break the content you are doing, you are doing it WRONG.
@(Unverified) Or at least acknowledge that armor a gigantic monster drops will not fit you, or maybe even a bear would not be holding on to plate mail. Yes, I would like your suggested system where loot was not dropped but components, or things that could be salvaged/disenchanted into components, were dropped instead. Seems legit.

The Daily Grind: Are you playing GW in anticipation of GW2?
Feb 28th 2012 8:15AM (Massively)...but nothing could get me to play GW again. Never liked that game. Took a brief period away from DaoC to play it, and soon went back to DaoC.
