If I had an unopened game, I'd just sell it. I only buy used games these days. Now that I'm older I value my money and I would never pay $60 just to unwrap a game a year later when I could pick it up at the store for half of that.
But in the old wild and crazy days, I'd buy four new games in one go and it would take me six months to finish the better ones, though I would crack them all open and try the game out just to make sure it works. What a shame it would be to have a game for two years just for it to be a bad copy!
I play all the newser stuff, thoguh I don't own a 360-still far to pricey for me. My favorite FPS is probably Halo2, but I'm not a rabid fan of gaming. I have a PS2 and used to have a 'Cube. My favorite PC shooter is still Half-Life, I was heavily into modding back then...
But my classic FPS fave is Goldeneye.
I loved Goldeneye. I was that kid with controllers akimbo-style. Two fisted, dual analog super-rumblin' goodness! I loved the music and am fond of 'interactive music' like the n64 over CD or MP3 when it comes to gaming, since it changes to suit your environment instead of simply playing an orchestral score.
Of course, my favotire parts were how they so utterly nailed both single player as well as multi. My friends had so much fun together with this game!
I still play it today on my PC via magical emulation...I can even use a neat (and useful) mouse mode with PJ64. I still have the cartridge, btw.
Now today, yea it's a bit older looking, but so's grandma but we still respect her, right?
The point is, ESRB already hired designers that 'know how print works'. It was confising and boring. A little confusing? maybe. It is compelling and that's important. Now at least it's relavant to gamers with these PRINT ads.
I'll say this about roms you can download right now.
It's not about 'free' for me. It's about enhancing the games I loved and owned. These games are on another level of enjoyment thanks to the emulation community!
I can currently play ZSNES and a game of MarioKart with many enhancements, like a refined Mode-7 that makes the flat plane they race on three times more detailed. I can take any multi-player game on the internet and play with my friends RIGHT NOW. Not when Nintendo says I can.
On the N64, several games have been enhanced. Several titles, like Zelda:MM have had the textures completely redone by fans and in turn, the detail has been cranked up five times higher. The graphics are incredible. You should see the castle in Mario64! You remember blurry textures in your N64 games? I sure do. If you could only see what I'm talking about your jaws would drop - this is possible only by using emulation that I can get right now.
Imagine multiplayer Goldeneye with all of the texures enhanced; three times more detailed. It looks like a dreamcast game. Now imagine playing Goldeneye ONLINE with your friends. It is not hard for me to imagine because I am able to do so RIGHT NOW.
If Nintendo would get to it already and provide this incredible level of enhancements, I'm in. I'll buy official stuff, but I can get it right now on my laptop, no sweat.
We live in an age where things happen so much faster than ever before. We've been brought up that way and the publishers had better work with us, not against us. It's too easy for us to lose interest in their sub-standard offerings. I just want quality, and I want it fairly quickly or I'll get it myself.
