Report: Modern Warfare 2 triggering UK games price hike, EA not budging

Jul 16th 2009 5:15PM (Joystiq)
That's the problem though, Activision are pushing up the price per unit for retailers. Our shop's already debating how much we're going to charge for it, because we obviously still need to make a profit, but charging £55 for a game is absurd, and likely going to screw us over as supermarkets will charge less and can afford to absorb the loss.

Last.fm on XBL: free to gold subscribers, 3 hours per month for others

Jun 30th 2009 8:22PM (Joystiq)
If I've already subscribed to Last.fm (it's wonderful), I don't need to pay any extra to get full access to all the last.fm features on the 360, right?

I'm really looking forward to this.

Joystiq interview: Downloading Criterion's thoughts on DLC

Feb 7th 2009 7:17AM (Joystiq)
The guy didn't even answer two of the questions, don't let them cop out with pre-arranged PR fluff. Press them, damnit!

Still, wonderful game, and I'm very impressed with the after-market support. In-game ads are definitely a fair trade off for the quality of content (think of all the shite we spend points on and we get entire new modes and stuff for free, it's mental).

I'm proud it's a UK developer blazing a trail in the age of DLC-supported gaming.

I'd be interested, but the way they've ratcheted up the difficulty since Neversoft took over kind of puts me off. I'm no slouch, but I don't have the time nor the patience to get as good as you need to to really enjoy these recent efforts. Plus, the developers don't seem to want you to have fun with it all, it's far more about it being challenging, which is fair enough, but I don't want to feel like playing a song is a chore.

Lawsuit: Microsoft knew about 360 disc scratching issue

Dec 15th 2008 4:58PM (Joystiq Xbox)
We're told at the shop where I work to recommend that customers lie the 360 flat, as the laser unit can wobble or move closer to the disc or...something (it's never been fully explained) and end up scratching the discs, so it's not just moving the console that can cause it. Looks fucking stupid stood upright anyway, and it's way easier to knock over.

And this lawsuit is stupid, they knew about the issue, they forewarned users about it in the manual. Yeah, htey could've been a bit smarter/spent a bit more money constructing a failsafe, but it's not like they shipped it with the problem, refused to acknowledge it or offer any support afterwards.

Ask X3F: Excellent good friends edition

On the whole I like the NXE, the advertising stuff can be annoying, but it's a necessary evil I guess. My main gripe is how slow it has become, I've often thought my console has actually crashed when it's really just taking 30 seconds to open up a profile or message or something, it's ridiculous.

Crazy colored Avatar hair discovered!

Nov 23rd 2008 2:45PM (Joystiq Xbox)
You don't need to spin, just idle over the hairstyles option.

Also, saying the Miis have more depth is just stupid, I'm not a fan of the concept at all, but the Avatars are far more customisable than the Miis, particualrly in terms of hair and clothes. The facial features are stunningly similar, to the extent that I'm surprised there hasn't been a lawsuit.

Ask X3F: Foul-mouthed edition

Nov 11th 2008 7:04PM (Joystiq Xbox)
Not sure if I misunderstood the wording, but the green controller is not exclusively available as a bundle with PES 2009. In fact, I've yet to see such a bundle. We have, however, had a massive amount of green controllers (packaged just like the white or black ones), along with green play-and-charge kits and battery packs.

As for the d-pad, it does feel a little more responsive, but I can't tell if it's because of the hardware, or because it's much newer and therefore less worn than my original pads.

EA milks Dead Space with purchasable DLC

Nov 10th 2008 3:49PM (Joystiq Xbox)
Fuck that noise. It's a great game, but there's always going to be something casting a shadow over it when it's EA at the helm. At least this is all cosmetic rather than vital components or something.
