How Many Films Have You Watched in Your Lifetime?

Aug 26th 2010 3:49PM (Cinematical)
About 1400. Which I don't feel bad about, considering I'm young, but I'd love to see way more. I'm aiming for 300 for the year, but last year I had a little more than 250. I keep track via facebook's Flixster.

Quick List: Canadian Movies That Are Cool

Jul 5th 2010 8:27PM (Cinematical)
what about Cube? what about the works of Cronenberg? sure it's a quick list, but at the very least Cronenberg is an important part of Canada and the cinema it has offered, even if his films don't ever "feel Canadian"

Christopher Nolan Might Not Love 3D, But That Won't Save Batman

Jun 14th 2010 1:04PM (Cinematical)
Nolan is an auteur, and he likes things done his way. He'd never shoot on digital, which is what shooting in 3D requires. Nolan loves film, so the only 3D option is in post.
It is disturbing to think that Nolan's love for IMAX may be threatened by the extra dimension, as IMAX theaters would definitely not show both IMAX 3D and IMAX 2D, so I'm really hoping there is no post conversion, as it would jeopardize the film in IMAX. Usually I don't care about 3D releases, as long as I don't have to see them, but this is infringing on a cinema lover's and a Batman fanboy's ability to see a film as desired.
I hope 3D isn't the death of Nolan's Batman franchise, because I could easily see that happening.

When One-Sheets Lie: Misleading Movie Posters

May 31st 2010 12:00AM (Cinematical)
The greatest poster lie ever pulled off is still from an american poster.

it's never in the movie, but it's still an iconic image always to be associated with the film

The Five New Spider-Man Contenders

May 27th 2010 9:15AM (Cinematical)
Before he was even announced, I had this little thought that Garfield would be great, not just because of his role in Imaginarium, but mainly for his top-notch performance in Boy A. If anyone deserves it, it'd be him, and he might be the only reason I'd actually see it.

What is This Generation's Greatest Coming-of-Age Film?

Apr 10th 2010 11:31PM (Cinematical)
Being a 17 year old in this generation, films taking place in these times have been the best coming of age stories for me, so stuff like Thumbsucker, The Chumscrubber, and oddly enough Wristcutters: A Love Story. Adventureland was amazingly underrated and an amazing pic to boot, but didn't affect me as a coming of age story simply because of the setting. Same with Donnie Darko and The Squid and the Whale. Not that they weren't all emotive in their own right, just each had that nostalgic sense of another time.

Who Won Oscars for Their Best Work?

Mar 7th 2010 3:10PM (Cinematical)
The pure fact that Kubrick never won best director is a discredit to the entire Academy Award system and is one reason I personally don't care for the glitzy event. Sure, he didn't do it for the awards, but the man deserved the recognition.
