That's total crap! Now not only do you have to buy the game, you have to pay extra if you can't figure out the mechanics? That like selling a blind man his own cane. Total, total crap. Greed seems to be the modus operandi at EA more and more lately.
Every time I read something that Mr. Cole has to say about Nintendo, it is negative. Never send a blogger to do a journalist's job. If you can't say something viable and constructive, Mr. Cole, then just move on and kowtow to the game corporation that has obviously bought you out. Don't try to present yourself as objective.
Hey, Vlad, you can't pull your foot out of your mouth by pushing it in further. "Value" I would say falls under the same catagory as "obscene". It's definition is truly subjective. You may not think that $250 is a good "value" for Nintendo's system, but others may find it perfectly acceptable. I don't personally care about power and graphics. What I care about is a fun or unique experience while playing a game. I am a multi-console kind of person, which means that I will more than likely buy a 360 after I purchase the Wii.
For me, it's not about power. Different manufacturers offer different things. It would be pure stupidity for me to limit myself to one console for the sake of "loyalty".
You know, there are people out there who question all gaming publications on their credibility at every turn. Normally, I am not one of those people. This time however, I just have to say it. What the heck is wrong with you people? A corporation does not survive to lose money. Nintendo made profits on the Gamecube last time round when all of the others were losing money. Perhaps this is not an indication of Nintendo getting the jitters, but merely a case of wise fiscal thought.
Nice use of the Latin in there, it really makes you sound smart. (Can you smell the sarcasm over here?) What's the big deal with this entire "console war" crap? Competition is a good thing. If Nintendo wants to charge less and make a real profit off of the Wii, then that is their perrogative. When faced with comepetition like that, Microsoft and Sony will be pushed to put out things that are bigger and better, if they can't do cheaper.
It would be silly for Nintendo to not look out for its own interests. I don't know about Mr. Cole (the author of this article), but for me it isn't a question of which system has "more power more graphics". I like games that are fun. Did Katamari Damacy look good? No, it was downright ugly in my opinion; but it's a really fun game. I spend more time playing the good games, over the good-looking games. And let's not forget that when the developers are spending all their time on graphics, they don't have as much time to use on developing good AI as well.
It's all about a trade-off. If Nintendo wants to make a profit, that is their business. If Sony and Microsoft want to lose money, then let them. Consumers shouldn't buy or not buy based on some huge "moral" reason. They should buy what they are going to enjoy and what appeals to them. I'm just glad that Nintendo has provided us gamers with less money a much cheaper option.
Now start acting like a journalist and quit playing favorites, Mr. Cole.
