Sony: PS2 back compat not returning to PS3 (ever)

Aug 20th 2009 8:27PM (Joystiq)
Launch 60gb PS3's in EUROPE were software BC and not hardware. My Ps3 as a software BC 60gb model, but the file story is still most likely bull.

But tbh, BC looks awesome on paper, and it certainly came in handy with the first year of no games, but its a really overrated feature anyway. I thought with my vast collection of ps2 games that id use it all the time, but after my ps3 game collection started to build, BC just seemed less relavent.

If my BC ps3 blew up tomorrow, id be more miffed at the absence of 2 of the usb ports than the BC. If its really that important to people, PS2's are dirt cheap now.

tbh i think its sensible, not everybody has HDTV's. I didnt get a HDMI capable tv till last jan, and ive had a ps3 since launch. If mine was shipped with a HDMI rather than the basic cables, i wouldnt have been able to use it out of the box. Sure it sucks to have to have to buy ur cable seperately, but then they are cheap. At least this way sony can pretty much guarantee that everybody can use the PS3 straight out of the box, HDTV or not.

No Guitar Hero: Van Halen for Europe this year

Aug 6th 2009 1:39PM (Joystiq)
im actually one of the few that is actually looking forward to this game, and is from the UK. The question now is do i import.

One thing i really do not understand is why there is so much hate for this. Sure i can understand that people want it as DLC, but thats not what gets me. Its the whole "ZOMG GH is being milked! RB FTW!" attitude, soon followed by all the RB: Beatles love. Why is it sooooo bad for there to be a GH:Van Halen, but OK for there to be a RB:The Beatles? Am i missing something?!

All i can say is i like VH more than i like the beatles, and to me, GH:VH is more appealing than all the other RB/GH releases put together! so i am dissappointed :(

Less hate ppl, nobodies forcing you to buy it.

Del Ray announces first God of War novel for March 2010

He wrote the novelisation of Revenge of the Sith which was actually really good. It was 1000000 times better than the movie. I for one am pleased with the choice, Matthew Stover is a good author and should do it justice

Marvel vs. Capcom 2 teaser has 'the touch, the power'

May 1st 2009 7:05AM (Joystiq)
i was half tempted to buy this, but after they burnt me with SSF2THDR theres no chance. They reaaly need to focus more effort on getting that game WORKING before releasing another half finished game. Mark my words... itll have major online issues from day one that will never be fixed.

German ratings board rates Guitar Hero: Van Halen

firstly, i NEVER said that there should ONLY be specialised band releases, that would be bad, and most deffinately isnt the case. I was merely stating that their existance was infact a good thing, as there are alot of ppl, like myself, that would much rather have the focussed experienced rather than have a game full of 'skip tracks'. And ill state again, if you dont want it, dont buy it, theyre not forcing you to.

secondly,

Quote:
"The only good reason I can think of for disc-based release is when the artist refuses to be just lumped in with the rest of the bands for some reason (see: the Beatles), and they're are a good enough artist to merit such demands (and even then, I think it's lame, but I'd rather have the Beatles than not"

Personally id rather have Van Halen than not. But is this not ok? is it because its not the beatles, because its GH and not RB? or because Van Halen arnt good enough to warrant a release? because imo, Van Halen are better than the beatles. Sure their not as mainstream, but do not forget, when it comes to GUITAR HEROES, there are none greater and more influential than Edward Van Halen short of Jimi Hendrix himself, and even thats debatable. This alone is reason enough to warrant a release on a game called GUITAR HERO.

I have a hunch, that if this was Rock Band: Van Halen, there wouldnt be nearly the hostility towards it.

@aristokrat

the problem ive found with the DLC, is that there are only a very limited amount of tracks. for example, on GHIII there was a Virtuoso pack, which had a Steve Vai track, a Joe satriani track and a bucket head track. While this was right up my alley, it was only 3 tracks... and it didnt take long at all to get through that content... its almost not worth the money. These specialised band releases are good as u get a good decent amount of content and as such feels worth my time and money. If you like a band, u dont just want 3 tracks, and a release with 30 odd of their tracks is just amazing.

If Van Halen isnt your thing, thats fair enough, nothing wrong with that, just dont buy it. In pretty much the same way i didnt buy the aerosmith and metallica disks.
