Joyswag: Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box (and a real Diabolical Box) [update]

Sep 1st 2009 2:13PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I have a collection of both diabolical metal and wooden "take apart" puzzles that would fit perfectly in a diabolical box.

New Mario Kart tournament opens for Wii Wheel users

May 16th 2008 10:35AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I love how people tout opinion as fact. I've been playing Mario Kart for years, I've got three stars on 50 and 100 so far, going to start on 150 tonight. Using the wheel. I play online, and consistently come anywhere from First to Fifth. Just because YOU don't like it and YOU can't play the game with it does not make it "truth" that the wheel is only for "casual" gamers.

Wii Warm Up: All things Metroid

Sep 4th 2007 11:41AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
Mr Khan

I had trouble with him because I thought all the orbs had to be destroyed together before you could move on to the next step. Everytime I got all of them popped open on the front, he'd recharge before getting the back. It was a sudden revelation to work on them one at a time...went down quicker than a drunken prom date after that.

Wii Warm Up: Channel surfing

May 16th 2007 9:33AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
My lady and I are both big fans of the Everybody Votes channel. It's one of the few things in the Wii, or gaming in general, I can get her involved in with me. I figure start small and ease her into it...

Next to the votes channel, mine would be the internet channel, playing Flash games and whatnot.

Why choose; do both in the same day!

The downloadable demo rumors: still rumors

Mar 19th 2007 9:07AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
Weren't they talking about, when this thing was still called the Revolution, DS demos being transferred from the console to the handheld? I even recall, I believe it was Reggie, saying that you would wake up in the morning, and your console would have it's download light on indicating you had a new demo, message, or Mii from a friend. It's bound to just be a matter of time...

Wii Warm Up: Are you still Wii-less?

Feb 21st 2007 10:31AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I had been looking for a Wii for several weeks, with no luck whatsoever. Checked and tried every store within driving distance, called those that were further than that. After two weeks, one of our local K-Mart stores got a shipment in and I just HAPPENED to call that day...which was yesterday, as a matter of fact.

To make it worse, the first console I got was faulty, wouldn't read any of the disks. Which, of course, I didn't find out til I'd already downloaded updates and made Mii's for my fiancé and myself. But once we got that one swapped out and all, I fell immediately in love with the system. I haven't had this much fun with a game console since the DS.

The store I bought it from told me they didn't even know there were shipments coming in, which sounded like a load of bollocks to me.

I'm wondering if Nintendo is maybe holding back some of their consoles, so in March they can just inundate every store on the planet with a huge stock all at once.

PC gaming "becoming a niche" -- analysts speak

Sep 11th 2006 4:38PM (Joystiq)
Uh, "appealing piracy-free environment"?

So, they're either lying, oblivious, or terribly naive. I'm not sure which one to hope for...but consoles are FAR from "piracy-free".

Wii rumor: voice-to-text chat

FLEDGLING fan base? Rather pointed barb there...rather inaccurate, I'd say, too.

DS Lite launches in the US

Jun 12th 2006 8:10AM (Joystiq)
I was actually more impressed than I thought I would be. There's a lot of small changes that add up to a lot. The longer, thicker stylus is much easier to hold and use. And until I saw the DS Lite, I didn't think the original DS had a brightness issue. It's really quite a difference; not only in the brightness itself, but the colors of the games seem richer and more vibrant. The more compact size makes it fit easily in a pocket to carry around with you. My only (minor) issue is the original GBA carts sticking out of the bottom. Instead of leaving the cart in, I've been just keeping any GBA carts with my DS games, popping them in as needed.

Overall, I'd say this is like what the GBA SP was to the original GBA...exactly how the system should have launched, with all the minor little piddling issues corrected.
