Hard questions: Wii novelty and drought in effect?

Feb 18th 2007 10:53PM (Joystiq)
Over exaggerating would be the word here. Nintendo's Wii drought is like all other post launch droughts. Happened to the 360, the Gamecube, The PS3, the Xbox and so on. Nothing new and singling out the Wii is not needed though I guess it is singled out cause it's right now had a good launch & is still under an inquiry if it will have lasting appeal.

THe thing is Nintendo did promise this wouldn't happen and I think this really should be a time where 3rd party devs really start going 'till blockbuster season. Time to try new things and IP's and the like.

Nintendo though seems to be getting lazy....online delays......software delays.....a lack of commitment in the virtual console that with some extra and original content could have been something to tide over people..

Next Wii channel could be 'Nintendo Power'

Square Enix blames Wii friend codes for lack of FFXI [update 1]

Feb 1st 2007 3:44PM (Joystiq)
There is something fishy here...
Square Enix's President said he loved how Nintendo had set up their online systems and would be jumping to support the DS (which we've seen) and the Wii with Chronicles which should be online when it reaches....

He even called it like a platform in itself at the time.

SO then I guess we can say it's not Square Enix who believes that, just that guy.

Then there is the case that Nintendo said (and we have seen with actual proof) that the console can work with universal friend codes and I think it was Reggie who said it's up to the developer and Nintendo themselves would judge based off the game's content....

So uhm......yeah....something here is fishy...

I have to side with Joystiq on this one completely.

The importance of Wii Bowling to Nintendo

Dec 26th 2006 8:56PM (Joystiq)
Wii sports undoubtedly was the most important game to hit the market this year. It really has had a strong impact and causes a slight paradigm shift and really draws in a new crowd.

Microsoft monopolizes Next-Gen's (long) list of best games

*sigh* Hear comes the miles of fanboy-esque comments either with bias or lame exaggeratedness.

Anyways, I think Gears of War is amazingly overrated, I really just don't see how so many ppl actually enjoy it to call it best this year. Twilight was FAR more enjoyable then again I may have some bias myself since I though RE4 was overrated which shows me I don't like 3rd person camera angles.

Had a multiplayer ordeal with it yesterday and surprisingly most ppl ended up trying to play GRAW instead. The gameplay just feels repetitive for me and again the camera really takes me out of it, the gameplay is static and honestly unintuitive (With the exception of the duck-cover system which plain and straight rocks). But it's all opinions, I just feel it is very very overrated for what it is, I just can't see why ppl would like it so much.

But I must say this, Dead Rising over Okami?? Now you just have to be pulling my leg.

Nintendo tyrannizes Gamasutra's 2006 list of best games

Dec 20th 2006 7:04PM (Joystiq)
Most important game this year? Probably Wii Sports.
Then Okami then maybe Oblivion and then Twilight Princess.

PN: I like Twilight Princess more than any game on my listing here but this was just in terms of importance.

Sequels Sega needs to make

I must agree with Streets of Rage and well...we got Golden Axe already (:))

I guess Sega needs to drop Shinobi 1 & 2 also on there.

Nintendo doesn't like next-gen optical discs

Anyone see the immense Satire in this article? The writer actually said:
"You mean like forcing us to upgrade to a DVD-enhanced Wii if we decide we want to play DVDs?"

And then said:
"the word "forcing" being tossed around like an old football. There are no documented cases of Sony busting into someones home, kicking them in soft places, taking $600 out of their wallet and leaving a shiny PS3 as they climb into their black helicopters. Sony isn't forcing Blu-ray onto anyone; they're putting it into their home console."

Are you kidding me? Has Joystiq writers gotten that skewed?

Nintendo's new Zelda falls flat

Nov 12th 2006 1:08AM (Joystiq)
lol, this is easily one of the worst blog posts I have ever seen cause it's such a fanboysitc semi-review (assuming the review isn't just one big opinion and is trying to analyze the game based off of things that would harm the general public experience)

Joystiq's post as of recent has been nothing short of pure bias. Other sites have been really fair so far and this was one of the last sites I thought would become so one-sided. Some of the things have been so fickle with their Wii subtle Bash posts, it's laughable @ this point.
