Joystiq Top 10 of 2011: Dark Souls

Jan 2nd 2012 10:21AM (Joystiq)
@Abob Lyndsae

Thank you! I always said that the "Souls" series was the closest this generation has gotten to a true Castlevania game. Especially Dark Souls. You got a huge open world, stat leveling, breaking walls to reveal secrets, lots of skeletons, and it's more about gameplay than story telling. To me Lords of Shadow didn't feel nearly as close to a Castlevania game as Dark Souls did.

Over 8,000 updates and bug fixes in latest MAG beta update

Oct 22nd 2009 2:21PM (Joystiq Playstation)
I got a question for anyone in the beta... I know there's 3 factions in the game, and you get to choose which one you want to belong to... But the actual battles are between two teams. How does that work? The servers just pairs two factions at random for each game?

Itagaki says Ninja Gaiden Sigma was 'no good'

May 22nd 2008 3:58AM (Joystiq Playstation)
Leave it to Itagaki to make a career out of selling the same game over and over. Anyone who has followed the DOA series knows what I'm talking about. Ninja Gaiden is no exception. NG2 looks pretty much the same as Sigma, just a few new weapons, but apart from that, nothing special. And the reason he's talking smack about the PS3 now is because M$ is paying him some top dollar to keep the game exclusive.

Siren Blood Curse debut trailer features more English than before

May 20th 2008 12:58PM (Joystiq Playstation)
I'm actually more excited about this game than Silent Hill 5... Last SH5 gameplay video was disappointing, to say the least. It's like they are trying to make Resident Evil 4 all over again. I hope Siren sells well. The original one is a very underrated game.

New screens show off Siren's aging enemies

Apr 22nd 2008 3:16PM (Joystiq Playstation)
Siren was a very underrated game. It was a different approach to horror than Silent Hill and Resident Evil and the fact that most characters couldn't even put on a decent fight made it all the more nerve wrecking. As for the comparisons with Silent Hill, well, the game was directed by Keiichirō Toyama, the director of the first Silent Hill. Other members from Team Silent worked on it too. It's a shame that Siren 2 never made it to America. I think a part of the reason the game was not all that successful in the west was the fact that it's a game that's very Japanese in nature, from the characters to the folklore, and that alienated a few people from actually getting into the game. That's probably the reason why most playable characters in this remake will be foreigners. The setting will be the same, as will the overall plot, but now part of the horror aspect of the game is the fact that the main characters are in an unfamiliar country experiencing all sorts of unnatural events. I'm really looking forward to this game, it looks like it's gonna be one hell of a scare. And hopefully, if they translate the game, the voice acting is better this time around... Cause the original was god awful...

A first look at Siren: New Translation

SOE President talks console MMOs, rivaling WoW

Mar 17th 2008 2:49PM (Joystiq Playstation)
I think console MMO's eventually will have a steady following, but still, it's way more comfortable to play a MMORPG on a computer even if you do have a mouse and a keyboard for your PS3. If they want to make console MMO's they should focus on something more action oriented than actual rpg's. Just my thoughts.
