Samsung's YP-MB2 Android PMP spotted again in the wild, inches ever closer to release
Aug 17th 2010 9:23PM (Engadget)...or i'm hacking the firmware for the music player app
Dell: Streak likely going straight to Froyo in US
Aug 15th 2010 8:08PM (Engadget)what was the last phone you purchased from a service provider that was sim unlocked?
remember the nexus was sold directly through google.
the evo, the vibrant, the captivate, the droid (1,2,X, incredible) all are sim/service provider locked.
I don't understand why everyone is pissed about this! I'd be pissed if dell sold it locked through the Dell Home website.

Editorial: Waiter, there's a Nazi theme in my Android Market (updated)
Aug 13th 2010 1:05PM (Engadget)the only thing i can see wrong with this is that it is tagged with jewish. otherwise if there i someone who believes in the nazi ideals, there is no way you're going to stop him/her. Let them have their theme, and let time move on.
you have to remember, that while Nazism was indeed bad, it was the popular trend in Germany, people got swept up trying to blend in. It's easy to believe in something that in hindsight seems ridiculous when you're freezing, starving and have no home.
People who call themselves "neo-nazi" while I don't agree with their covenant, it is their right as a human being to believe it. so long as they don't start killing people, I have no issue.
Off-contract Dell Streak is still SIM-locked to AT&T, wrongs still being done in the world
Aug 12th 2010 9:13PM (Engadget)If you buy a vibrant at T-mo or an Evo at sprint, even if you pay full price its still locked to tmo or sprint.
at least with att, if you buy it full outright and call CSR, they'll give you the unlock code right away. They did for my captivate and I don't see any reason why they wouldn't for the streak
ATT is turning into apple news for people on this site, they do the EXACT same things as every other carrier but they're the ones who get lambasted. Must be something to do with the fact that they have the iPhone...
Token multitouch screen shows us the future of DJing, today (video)
Aug 6th 2010 3:26PM (Engadget)jazzmutant has been innovating the multitouch screen scene for a decade
it's a shame their shit is so expensive. I wouldn't have gotten 2 iPads with touchOSC otherwise
...Yes, I'm a DJ. and Yes I'd trade my two iPads and a very long bj for that set up above

PS3 firmware 3.41 said to be causing hard drive upgrade problems
Jul 31st 2010 12:25PM (Engadget)call sony and they'll replace it for you...160gb or 80gb fatties get a 250gb slim and 40gb get a 120gb slim.
if you have a 60gb or 20gb fatty, sony will give you a $70 game credit along with a 250gb.
I have a 60gb and I have a 40gb. The 60 crapped out with this firmware, and while I don't use the BC i still want it. so I swapped the hdd and loaded a custom firmware (3.4 custom google it) and it loaded back down and now i'm just waiting for 3.42 so i don't have to deal with it. But the 40gb had to be updated as well and it messed up. Sony sent me a new 120gb (its in the mail)
PS3 firmware 3.41 said to be causing hard drive upgrade problems
Jul 31st 2010 12:20PM (Engadget)the good thing is that the wii updates aren't required and games that do require them carry the update on the disc, so the homebrew scene will always continue to push out ways around it for as long as they can/care to.
long live wii homebrew, I'm pretty positive loading my games onto a HDD was about the most important/useful thing I could have ever done for my wii (yes, I buy my wii games...there aren't that many good ones anyways)
