Review: Stargate Universe - Time

Nov 14th 2009 1:51PM (AOL TV)
Although the show has its ups and downs, I thought this was a great episode. A compelling mystery, some action, gruesome deaths, and some good acting. Oh, and no magic stones. And between his sacrifice and talk about Ascension, Rush got fleshed out more as a believable character, which was needed. It may have been a downer, but it definately wasn't slow paced (unlike previous episodes).

I can understand why people might want a story arc to emerge. But at the same time the episodes so far remind me a little of the beginning of Lost (in no small part due to the 'plane crash' opener). They are castaways in a dark and mysterious location, where even simple things like water obtain great significance, and we slowly learn who these people are. Maybe the show will be even better once some 'Others' appear, but for now, I'd must prefer to see them adapt to their new situation, than get into space battles with blue skinned aliens and a wise-cracking ship.

And I do hope they don't show the crew capturing the alien next week. Letting viewers realize what was going to happen was a much better use of writing, than explicitly showing it. Its one of those touches that gives me hope the show could go from good sci-fi, to great.

The Office's Karen: Should she stay or go?

May 4th 2007 6:05PM (AOL TV)
I'm agreed with #2.

Karen was a more fun and interesting character at the beginning of the season, and hasn't had much to do since. However I'd also add that Pam hasn't had all that much in terms of lighthearted fun either, until the last episode.

I do hope Karen returns. I suspect that part of the reason she's not that funny now is because she's just "Jim's girlfriend" rather than a long-term character. If they have they decide to keep her around, I suspect she'll become more fleshed-out as a person.

Microsoft's Xbox Live Video: HDTV and HD movie downloads for your 360

Nov 6th 2006 9:15PM (Engadget)
Very awesome move indeed. Having predicted this a long time ago (not that it was hard), I am also calling that this will be tied into the marketplace for the Zune. A TV or movie purchase (and you know they will do movie purchases) can be downloaded as HD, SD, or Zune size, all for one price. I mean, they said Zune will have video downloads based on Microsoft points, and they are announcing it for the Zune soon as well.

Microsoft, you've already offered Battlestar Galactice episode for download on Live, even if they were only teasers and summaries. Please, please, pleases, offer BSG in HD. Trust me, I'll buy them all.

Microsoft developer says Xbox 360 "equal in power" to PS3

Nov 2nd 2006 1:29PM (Joystiq)
Seriously, why is this a story? I don't understand. Developers on all platforms make comments like that every day. Not to mention he didn't said anything stupid to be made fun of.

Rather than your misleading title, he suggested that the PS3 had its strength and the 360 had its strengths, and for developers the end difference was pretty small. That seems very reasonable and, even if you believe its not true, is hardly idiotic or controversial.

Like you said, if it doesn't matter, WHY IS THIS A STORY? Is the point that he is saying something obvious and expected, or he is saying something obviously false? I don't get the point.

Sony lawsuits force Lik-Sang to close up shop [update 1]

Oct 24th 2006 12:51PM (Joystiq)
This really, really sucks. Lik-Sang was a great store and resource. And they weren't shut down for breaking the law. They were shut down by a megacorporations group of lawyers, the same lawyers Sony would use on everyone who hacks their PSP or uses a Music CD on more than one computer.

Lik-Sang didn't sell pirated or illegal things. They simply sold regular products to people in different countries. Which Sony doesn't like. Seriously, this has me really angry. To hell with companies that would rather sue people out of existence than compete fairly, like Sony has done many times before.

Famitsu publisher predicts scalable PS3 as next-gen victor

Oct 13th 2006 7:45PM (Joystiq)
"But its overwhelmingly realistic graphics will give it a long life span"

Yeaahh.... Not exactly the most objective take on it. Its hard to say PS3s graphics are "overwhelmingly" better than the 360s. Most independent publishers have said they're basically equal. (Read the arstechnica take on it for a good, if technical, breakdown).

"It will stay competitive even when a game console battle breaks out among a newer generation of machines in 2010. Sales should grow every time Sony cuts prices."

Uh, sales will grow for all consoles whenever they cut prices. And there is reason to believe that the 360 and Wii will be able to do so faster than Sony. And it's impossible to say whether it will do well against the next iterations of Nintendo and Xbox when we don't know what they are yet.

Maybe the PS3 will be the victor. But this one guys opinion is based on speculation and wishful thinking more than substantive argument.

Xbox 360 guitars tethered down by the man

Sep 28th 2006 9:21PM (Joystiq)
Just curious, has anyone considered that it may be due to the plug and charge cable? If they are showing it off, they don't want the controller to run out of power. If its wireless it still needs a cable to draw power.

I see no reason why it wouldn't be wireless. I'm betting that it is.
