Surely this place must also be highly respected and considered a center of intellectual thought, too.

Nov 1st 2009 9:55PM (Joystiq)That being said, both words are pretty commonly used terms in the US military. Anyone ever seen Generation Kill? It's a miniseries closely based on the real life reporting of a Rolling Stone journalist.
There are lots of racist and sexist terms used in the US military, and white supremacists will openly talk about their views.
For example, coffee can be referred to as "November Juliet" and people will understand that in the military. What does November Juliet mean? Ni gger Juice. Uttering such a term in corporate or political life would destroy one's career overnight. But in the military, you're fine.
Militaristic video games have a interesting way of self-censoring themselves usually. Typically, all the racist and sexist stuff is left behind, while more neutral curse words are OK. The irony is that the games are supposed to be interpreted as "macho tough guys who don't care about being politically correct" types of games, yet it's obvious the game developers are being somewhat politically correct behind the curtains. Omission is a purposeful decision of any developer.
