GameFly offers cheap games for the thrifty

May 13th 2008 8:38PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
What is it with the spate of "SuX it, moneYy PayErZZ!!!!3!" posts we've been seeing on DSFanboy lately? Surely I'm not the only one who's had it with the uncouth gloating and general trollish jackassery that seems to have possessed various R4 owners. While I'm not trying to incite an argument, given that I and likely most of us here are well aware of the legitimate purposes of piracy-prone devices, the fact still stands that this got old a long, long time ago. To those who've come here to get their jollies with these kind of posts, we're not receptive to your lame attempts at appearing edgy, so give it up.

Mitewa Ikenai: creepy photography both in and about the game

May 13th 2008 12:59PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
We need more photography games, especially horror photography since Fatal Frame 1-3 have been gouged to oblivion on ebay. Because of this, it's too bad that this has virtually zero chance of ever making it out of Japan.

I also continue to foolishly hope for a DS or Wii sequel to Pokemon Snap.

Digging up fossils in Dinosaur King

May 13th 2008 12:52PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
Fox Box (wait...4kids TV now, apparently) always had the WORST taste in children's programming. I assume they're even worse now than they were when I was a kid, but even then there was no way in hell anyone was getting me to sit through one minute of Fighting Foodons or The Cramp Twins.

Anyway, if We Are Fossil Diggers hadn't have just had a highly-successful release in Japan, I'd be interested in this. The potential for localization of a more polished product not attached to a cartoon license is going to keep me away for a while. Alternately, Spectrobes 2 may be a vast improvement over the original, but I doubt that.

Nintendo Channel: New week, new demos

May 12th 2008 12:10PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
Way to go, Nintendo. Hopefully this is the first sign that the DS Download Service isn't going to trickle to one new addition every week or so like it has in Japan.

So, without further ado, there's a murder at the Borscht Bowl Club that I have to find the truth behind.....again.

DS Daily: Must you catch it again?

May 12th 2008 12:05PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I owe my years-long Pokemon fanaticism (now cooled for the most part) to a third variation, that being Pokemon Yellow. I was in to the television show before I was ever in to the games, and I picked Yellow up as a young child because of the draw of having a Pikachu tag along with you, the availability of all three starters, et cetera. It turned out to be a fun game independent of its similarities to the anime, so I branched out to other games from there. The third game in each series has a legitimate place, but only so long as it's different enough from the other two to warrant purchase.

I probably won't be getting Platinum, though. I barely beat the Elite Four on Pearl before getting bored, and the draw of a marginally-more interesting legendary is not nearly enough to get me playing again. This isn't to say that I wish any ill will toward the Pokemon franchise, though--I hope it lasts for all eternity both for the benefit of the fans who are resistant to fatigue and, in all honesty, to spite those who, year in and year out, feel so compelled for whatever infantile reason to take a piss on Pokemon and those who enjoy it.

Marvelous unlocks Avalon Code site, screenshots

May 9th 2008 2:43PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I agree with what the staff said in that it looks a little derivative. Given that the higher-ups at Namco are foolishly and irrationally withholding the Tales DS games from us, it might make an alright consolation game. This is, however, with the caveat that if Nintendo decides to localize Soma Bringer (and they had better), I would purchase it over Avalon Code in a heartbeat. In other words, this game had better make itself stand out in some manner, and soon.

Activision announces Guitar Hero DS Lite bundle, new Tony Hawk

May 9th 2008 2:34PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
Okay, Activision, don't drop the ball on this new THPS DS. You don't even need to screw around with touchscreen-controlled skating to make it good, although it seems likely that this is part of what the mysterious "new technology" alludes to. Just, whatever you do, don't make it suck--if Skate DS turns out to be just a rumor or, otherwise, a horrendous product, we really need a backup.

DS Daily: That tricky extra dimension

May 8th 2008 2:16PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
The best is either yet to come, or not coming at all. The former category brings Moon to mind, the latter Tales of Innocence. I can't speak much for the present given that most of my games are 2D.

Gamefly lists Exit, Legend of Kage 2 for U.S. release

May 8th 2008 2:12PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
So how did Legend of Kage 2 go over in Japan? Not necessarily sales-wise, but in terms of whether or not it was generally considered to be a good game. Hopefully it's not just being localized in hopes that older DS owners will buy it out of nostalgia for the NES version.

Koei really needs to localize Nobunaga's Ambition

May 7th 2008 11:30PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I kind of like the style, but, then again, Dynasty Warriors is one of my occasional guilty pleasures. If this is localized I would seriously consider purchasing it, as I'm definitely up for a more serious type of strategy game. Do oblige us, Koei.
