Minecraft's latest snapshot introduces ocelots (look at his little spots!)

Look at his tufted little ears!

Testing Kinect in Mass Effect 3 (plus, demo coming February 14) [update: more demo details]

Jan 18th 2012 5:54PM (Joystiq)
@(Unverified) The Kinect implementaiton they show here is exactly the same as the stuff in HAWX and other games that use the headset. Except the mic being used is on the Kinect (and perhaps the voice recog software, I don't know how that works, but since the Xbox itself keep track of your speech if you so choose, a la Android phones, then that may be what sets it apart). None of those commands above look to have a movement component to them.

And it may very well work with the headset, has anyone asked or tried yet? You can use the Kinect for in-game voice chat, perhaps the other way around? I have to yell to get mine to hear me, that'll get annoying for my neighbors and gf in this game :/

Mass Effect 3 campaign details from Casey Hudson offer you a choice

Jan 10th 2012 10:17PM (Joystiq)
@Kresh It looks like you took that statement slightly out of context. Judging by the content of the interview and of what we already know about a Mass Effect game, he likely refers to the fact that some sections branch more than a little bit based on actions, and that can take some of the flow out of enjoying an unfolding story.

To usurp your analogy, imagine if, in the middle of a movie, the characters all froze while the viewers decided whether they want to see the hero save the girl he's come to love or stop the terrorist from exploding a church full of puppies. Screenwriters tend to make this choice for us because they have a certain vision in mind. In a Mass Effect game, though, the player is the storyteller, who uses Bioware's tools and words to fashion their variant of the same story everyone else is experiencing. If one wants to give up that control of whether to ask 4 questions about Citadel security procedures or the price of spice on Omega and just let the game choose the (usually) one options that moves the conversation along, how's that affect how you or I enjoy our trips through the Mass Effect universe, and how does that make the person incapable of intelligent thought or action?

Humble Indie Bundle 4 revealed, nab Meat Boy, Shank, Jamestown and more

I was actually going to buy Cave Story on the DS shop today (but was lazy), so seeing it in this bundle was serendipitous! And I paid more than my average to the developers solely because a Philly-based gamehouse is part of it (gotta represent for my hometown!).

I shouldn't've checked out with Google wallet, though...still haven't gotten my Humble Bundle redemption email, and with Paypal it's usually instant :/

Tough Economy: Even Master Chief has to buy Halo

This wouldn't be nearly as interesting news if it didn't take place in Philly. As a lifelong Philly resident, I'm surprised there wasn't more booing, battery-throwing, or egg-tossing going on ;)

The Joystiq Show - 013: Super Metal Uncharted Land

Halfway through listening to Griffin talk about Saint's Row III, I left work and picked up the damned game for $40. The review didn't really sell me on how deep the sandboxing was (as I usually get bored fast), but just the (spoiler) end of that freefall sequence convinced me that it's a game I'd rather play now than wait til Christmas on.

For the same reason,I've got to send you back to Gamefly, AC: Revelations. I'd open, install, and play you, but Saint's Row The Third has stolen my gilded letter opener and...oh..wait..what are you doing Saint's Row The Third? Nooo......

Spider-Man: Edge of Time tells the tale of two Spideys this fall

@CaptainProtonX Quesada and Brevoort are fairly loose with stuff like continuity, etc, and don't mind changing stuff to try to make a better story (wishing away Peter Parker's marriage isn't a good example of that, hah). That being said, like someone else posted, Marvel makes their own handbook to the different timelines, and other editors/writers definitely reference the numbers in their comics.

You Don't Know Jack review: A not-so-trivial success

@copa The android app doesn't display the systems its for either. I only know its for the 360 due to the footnote...

Dreamcast Collection puts four whole games on PC and Xbox this Feb.

@Calatia there's already a PSO game out for XBLA. It seemed okay to me, and I liked the DC version, too
