Metareview - Red Steel

"Nintendo's lust for innovation has again proved to be a hurdle for developers conditioned in the old ways."

If they don't, the Wii fails-- and it won't matter WHOSE fault you think it is. Any tech is bad tech if it isn't implemented correctly.

Well, I'll be getting a PS3 soon, but before that I'd like to see if the Mac Mini will look any good on it!

How did you blow your NES cartridge?

Oct 29th 2006 5:35PM (Joystiq)
I used to press down on the cartridge multiple times while it was in the box. I call this the "CHUNKA CHUNKA CHUNK".

I second the suggestion for PLASMA PONG. Google it.

When fanboys attack

Dear lord, that is one awful display. I guess it doesn't help that I grew out of listening to Queen when my balls dropped.

And yes, developers are indeed abandoning the Wii. It's a case of "interesting tech, but no one can think of a damn thing that would showcase it well". Nothing to do with the developers' skills, everything to do with too-different tech that won't stick. They can forget about cross-platform titles, too... although I guess Gamecube helped soften that blow.

But hey-- Nintendo buyers will have their Zelda, their Mario, and their dozens of overblown "party games" (read: minigame compliations that weren't rewarding enough to be bonus rounds for other games). So, good for them.

Episodic content: Changing the way video games are made

Oct 2nd 2006 5:13PM (Joystiq)
You know, I have no problem with "low-content" games. The problem arises when a game can be sucked completely dry of value within an evening. For $30 a pop, this comes dangerously close to the current condition of Hollywood and theaters ripping off consumers with their drivel.

/me goes to play some random Flash puzzle game that was probably written in a weekend

I remember when you would buy a videogame system and there were 1-2 games actually in the box.

Motorstorm footage hot from the oven

Yeah, what we have here is a big downgrade from what I saw in the E3 trailer-- but I think the rigid chasecam is mostly to blame for that.

Chasecam is a tired artifact from an era of limited graphical capability. Put a LOT more emphasis on the driver perspective, add some reaction to the environment (i.e. head-bobbing from impacts), and you have what's a bit closer to the general public's original expectations of the game and next-gen in general.
