3D Classics Kid Icarus is a pre-order bonus for Uprising

Jan 19th 2012 7:28PM (Joystiq)
Yeah I'm upset about it too. I don't do pre-orders. They're entirely a waste of money up front and irrational. I can see a slim need around the holidays around a year with a system launch at most. Just include the stinking code already.

Now I have to mull over giving someone my cash so they can make a penny or two of interest on it while waiting to cash out when the game is shipped/in store for pick up. Very aggravating.

Why Final Fantasy XIII just didn't work

@(Unverified) Yeah and my reasoning is sound. Most games give a very limited set of options, that's why stuff like the sandbox type games were so welcomed when they hit it huge with the likes of GTA3. A lot of games you just can do what the confined space and straight path allows, most aren't like GTA3 or a free roaming RPG on or offline where you can virtually do whatever you want.

@WiredKnight Yeah it was, laugh out loud, you're a fool. Probably too complex or just too much story for you.

Why Final Fantasy XIII just didn't work

Honestly it's just whiny fans who can't stand it when it comes to this game because of the reasons in the article. It is just like the other titles in the bigger picture, it's just not using smoke, mirrors, and lies to make it FEEL otherwise. FF has always been about following the story from A to B to C and so on. Sure there's the occasional optional boss or cave, but it's nothing so freaking game making huge by any means. FF13 where it strayed really would be the fact that there is the valid point of the fact it didn't hide the linearity and it removed the towns and their NPCs and placed those save point/shop all in one devices as a replacement.

FF13 didn't do much wrong on face value, it did what all other non-MMO FF games have done before, taking you along the story line which little ever deviates, but it made it obvious -- very obvious without the open map and towns giving the fake idea of choice. Pull that to the side the story was truly engaging and fantastic, it keeps you going wanting to know more and see what will happen to the party of people once they're cursed and the clock is ticking. FF13-2 will fix this, big story and a fake open world with towns and NPC so you can feel like there's choice in the matter once more.

Zen Pinball 3D flips out on eShop January 12

Jan 4th 2012 5:26PM (Joystiq)
@Axcalibur
Over at NintendoLife one of the makers of the game came on as someone was being jerky trying to do a call out on them over DLC because the game only has 4 tables (well it launched with 4 on PS3 too...durrr.) Saying they were spacing it out to rip people off. The thing is just 4 tables have been converted so far and more coming later. Anyway in the post he said they were looking at $2/each for DLC tables for the 3DS eShop package.

Can't hardly argue over $2 for a full pinball table.

PSA: How to un-ugly your GBA games on 3DS

Dec 19th 2011 6:20PM (Joystiq)
Wow, out of a sea of so many ingrate and complaining comments that don't get what goes into these things (free or not) it's nice to see Roto13 does and continues to put the reality of it out there.

Stop whining people, seriously. They're free. Even if they're not free, these games are emulated entirely or to a point (GBA via 3DS due to similar hardware) and they're made and colorized to the reality of the system/screen they were saddled with. You can't expect these to look 100% pretty and sparkly blown up as the resolution doesn't match, and in the case of Gameboy Advance (or GB anything) they were made for a system that had no backlighting or worse pulled in ambient light to cast the image and therefore colorization tricks were done for those screens to get the most bang for your buck out of it. Of course GBA games are going to look a bit off, 3DS has a modern screen and lighting solution.

If you don't like it, don't use it, or go buy the game or GBA+game if your comfort levels are that offended.

Gift of the GBA: 3DS Ambassadors can now access another 10 free games

Dec 16th 2011 10:30AM (Joystiq)
I was betting they'd have this up around midnight last night and yeah I checked it a few in after and it was there so I grabbed them while the server load was low and they came within a few seconds which was surprising. I really like the selection and I've always wanted to see if I could get into Fire Emblem but the cheating AI stuff of Advance Wars ran of me off, never did try out Kirby either.

10 games is a good apology letter there from NOA, shame I have a big stack of GB/C/A games I messing with already as it's hard enough to manage 10 let alone triple that now. ;) I'll have to figure out how to budget the time so nothing gets ignored.

...hoping at some rate others can experience the GBA VC too.

Uncharted 3 patch adds alternate aiming, brings back cutscene viewer

Nov 30th 2011 12:14AM (Joystiq)
@sammo21
Totally agree with your comment, but the other Uncharted games got pretty obnoxious in the last 1/3 of it, maybe a little less. I had a lot of house guests and TV banditing that stopped me playing it over 2 weeks now, but I was late into it in a ghost town and it got annoying with the body count coming up. It I think isn't a symptom of U3 but of the entire series, its real true solitary flaw. They shift way too hard from exploration and daring moves to unbelievable to the amount of getting tiring gunplay.

Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy dated, overpriced in Japan

Nov 16th 2011 5:13PM (Joystiq)
I'd offer a shovel up but with that price I'm sure they could afford one of solid gold. If that game pops out in this country playing the square nerd tax game they've pulled on Nintendo since FF2 dropped at $60 20 years ago and since right into the DS era they can suck it. I want the game, but I can also wait as long as necessary to see it priced right.

Nergy: Seriously, the game is priced over a 1000 yen more expensive than Super Mario 3D Land, the value and back converted to the dollar in comparison percentage wise of yen vs the dollar for Mario puts this game in the $50 range, and that's the classic square nerd tax in full effect. They got every right to be pissed if this happens here too.

Super Mario 3D Land comes with new 3DS firmware

Nov 4th 2011 1:28PM (Joystiq)
@CaramelZappa

Sure why not? It's a learning curve, DSi and 3DS came after, and each time they've locked down the integrity o the system more and more each time. Also the Wii was easily pirated on DISC, not so much with the downloads now was it?
