New Wi-Fi mode revealed for Chinatown Wars

Jan 24th 2009 4:33PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
This is a brilliant idea, and I can't believe it hasn't been used on a console game yet. Open world games would get a whole new element, where my friends and I work independently to flesh out the map. You could even plan out especially good routes between points, so your friends can see them if they're having trouble.

Criterion, I'm looking in your direction . . .

What's in the upcoming free Burnout Paradise patch?

You don't have to crash intentionally. If you stop your car for a few seconds in road rage or any other event, the event ends automatically.

DS Daily: Chrono Glory

It's probably the best port of an old game I've ever seen. The visuals have been faithfully transferred down to the last detail. Event the transparencies in the clouds look perfect.

The translation has been completely redone, from minor conversations with NPC's to item names.

My only complaint is that the new translation takes out some of the more silly, funny aspects of the original. Most notably, the "it must have been all that oatmeal!" line is now gone.

Nickelback singer: Put down the Guitar Hero

Two important items to consider during this discussion:

"How You Remind Me of Someday"

and this video of Nickelback having rocks thrown at them at a concert:

Proceed.

That was supposed to be a reply to the next comment down, my bad Khan.

Japanese hardware sales, Sept. 22 - Sept. 28: Candidacy edition

I'm a PS3/Wii owner who will never buy a 360, but I couldn't be happier about it getting a foothold in Japan.

Why?

Because competition is good. I don't believe that the PS3 or Wii would have online stores/gaming this generation if the Xbox hadn't slapped the industry awake on the issue, and both machines are better for it. Competition made things better for all of us.

It's fine to like one system over another, but as a consumer of these things you shouldn't WANT the other consoles to die. If there's one clear winner, that company gets to sit on their heels and churn out the same old thing. With three contenders in the race, each one has to keep pushing for more features, better games, and cheaper prices.

Be a fan of whatever systems you like, be a supporter of them all.

I really want to make a Hero/Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon inspired level.

What they really need to do is pump the audio from the major events into the lineup room. They could even put in some flat screens or a projector if they wanted to do it right.

That being said, I never had a problem getting into an event if I showed up 30-45 minutes beforehand, and I always got into the concerts no matter when I showed up.

Burnout Paradise goes down to Greatest Hits price

Aug 5th 2008 4:51PM (Joystiq Playstation)
I love Paradise, but you're totally right about the Crash Mode in Burnout 2. I think it would be great if they brought it back as a stand-alone DLC game. You could do it online: Each player takes a run at the course, and you get to see everyone else's attempts. Then each person gets a second run, and the best of your two scores counts.

(I've thought about this a lot.)

Rumor: Vader DLC bringing dark side to Xbox 360 Soul Calibur IV

Jul 25th 2008 6:57PM (Joystiq)
Exclusive characters only made sense when it was characters from games that were console-exclusives (Link, Heihachi Mishima).

If you want to include Vader and Yoda, fine, but put them out on both systems, then give us Master Chief and Kratos as exclusives.
