Joystiq Review: inFamous

May 20th 2009 9:21AM (Joystiq)
@Jacko

ROFL. I'm not a gamer because I don't want to waste £300 on a console I hate? Whatever. (Btw, I hate the console but not the games. I just hate the look of everything about PS3. Maybe I've been tainted with 360 mindcontrol, but it all looks too inferior for me to bother with).

Saying that, the only game I really want on PS3 is MGS4, because I've played the last 3 and loved them.

Realtime Worlds: APB at E3, first in-game screen released

In a PS3 mag? Really? It's a 360 / PC exclusive currently. Must have not announced platforms when it was first announced.

Bionic Commando demo due tomorrow on Xbox Live

Apr 28th 2009 10:17AM (Joystiq)
The only reason the Marvel vs Capcom demo is exclusive is because Microsoft doesn't support XBLA pre-release demos. You get a trial of it (ie. demo) on the same day it releases.

I imagine this demo is 360 exclusive because of development time to do two MP demos, AND the fact Sony charges publishers to put content on it's Playstation Store.

Joystiq vs. Bungie: A Mythic Halo 3 Challenge [update 2]

I used to be a clan leader for both Halo 3 and various other games, so I have extensive experience in calling out enemy locations clearly and concisely, tactics for the majority of the maps, and working well as a team - which would be a great help for Team Joystiq I imagine!

[Note: I'm from England, but can make these events any time (even at stupid o'clock in the morning) on both those days fortunately. And I have extremely good internet, lag is a rarity on Halo for me]

Fallout 3's 'The Pitt' still pitching a fit, Bethesda promises fix

Apr 3rd 2009 11:22AM (Joystiq)
Your exactly right Lavat. I think Fallout 3 is the most overrated RPG in a long time, with Oblivion in a close second. The animations are dire, the story telling is absolute cack, the combat sucks (if this was a shooter, people would be slating it big time) and the whole "choices" thing really doesn't get pulled off that well because of it. And for an RPG to have such a poor story just makes it a game of numbers and stats, whopee.

The only thing I liked about Fallout 3 was the last mission (NOT the end, that was disgustingly bad, just the last mission) which is when I thought it was finally getting going (no, seriously) in story and gameplay. On top of that, the world sucked (boring as hell) but the atmosphere was great in the Vault 101. That's the only time I thought they really pulled off the whole setting, the rest of the time it was one boring subway / wasteland after another.

The worst thing about the whole game however for me, was level design. Ignoring the subways (worse than caves by far imo), the wasteland was a mess of level design. Putting rubble on the streets and forcing you to find the right subway to get to the centre of the city annoyed me to no end. It made it felt linear, like I couldn't explore wherever I wanted.

There's so many issues with F3. I really do not know why people call it GOTY. As a big RPG fan, I found it a pile of streaming horsecrap. Play Mass Effect, then you'll know what a GOTY RPG looks like.

Two new Battlefield: Bad Company 2 screens (yes, two)

Mar 31st 2009 4:37AM (Joystiq)
I thought the destruction system was brilliant. It was far better than anything done before on consoles, as most destruction systems go over the top and look ridiculous. BC had a use for it's destruction and did it well.

The only thing I will agree with what you said though is that it was a little predetermined, but we're only really just entering the age where these destruction systems can be done. These things will take time to perfect.

As for the screens, they look seriously nice. Looks sharper than the original, and much better without that film grain (though the film grain does suit the original imo).

Resident Evil 5 topping charts in the UK

Mar 18th 2009 5:50AM (Joystiq)
I completely agree, they do suck if they don't like the controls. If you could run and gun, all the tension from the game would be lost. I much prefer the tension and fear you get from having a zombie with a chainsaw getting too close to you whilst your shooting and having to just BARELY move in time, than any cheap attempts at scaring me like most horror games, which NEVER work. Sure, they might make you jump every so often, but that's not hard to do at all.

The controls aern't "last gen" as everyone claims. They're Resident Evil and that's what makes it so kickass. Without it, RE would not be RE.

Stormrise only supports DirectX 10, is Vista-exclusive

Mar 4th 2009 9:20PM (Joystiq)
Actually I'll think you'll find "Halo 2 Vista" was the first Vista exclusive title (by default anyway, there are methods around that I hear). And that came out way back in.. 07? I think.

Dishwasher: Dead Samurai features Joystiq-inspired 'Peter Moore Achievement'

Mar 2nd 2009 6:44PM (Joystiq Xbox)
Totally agree. Imo X3F is now an XBox tagged feed of Joystiq reskinned, it's completely lost any charm it has. I only come here for the occassional bit of gaming news that other, better blogs might have missed.

Shame, X3F used to be the best. XJ is just so blah.

Joyswag: Win one of five 'Halo Wars' demo codes

Feb 2nd 2009 1:53PM (Joystiq Xbox)
I was startled when mashing my A button did not make me jump around the screen like a Rabbit. This is not Halo!
