U.S. WiiWare may wait an eternity for Eternity's Child

Jun 30th 2008 6:17PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
well, this game looks to be a bad title. interesting art style but thats the only thing going for it really, and at that its nothing really to gasp and awe at. Sides, the creator is full of himself and one less snobby self righteous "artist" we have floating his big head the better.

High Voltage drops a truckload of screens from The Conduit on us

Jun 12th 2008 5:04PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
Its looking pretty good. But as stated a few things should be set before this game could be a great. Controls and the framerate indeed.

But as well, it does seem to be lacking a good art direction. Its like they ran with everything but good textures and more fleshed out models. Heres hoping they nail those and add a good FULL multiplayer package and well have a good game under the wii :)

Protesters fight the wrong in Beer Pong

Jun 12th 2008 4:57PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I dunno, I see a light in both cases. On one side it would be cool to play some Beer pong with my bud in Chicago (Im in Washington) like we used to only this time across the net. . . . assuming it has Wifi. If not I do not see any reason a game like this would be played as like stated, its not a hard game to get into in real life.

About kids playing it. If a kid doesnt cant read the title and connect the dots as to the content they are in for a sucker-full life ahead of them. If a kid DOES pick up the title and wants to play he/she knows what its about and . . . oh my gosh . . . prolly drinks beer as well! Hell, they prolly where playing the real game the night before downloading this one hahaha.

Kids are gonna drink with or without movies, music, and games. If your monkey kid sees you or any adult drinking and its slightly interested, its going to drink at some point. Give your kids the information about it if it IS interested and tell them that "hey, untill 21 your walking on thin ice if you drink, you could screw your life up pretty bad for a night or two of partying." or something along those lines.

If your kid goes out and drinks and does something bad well sir, you have a stupid ass kid. Sad I know but, such as life.

WiiWare developer shares rejection letter

Jun 6th 2008 2:36PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I run a studio of developers and we are making games for browsers and download coded in flash (or torque, depends on the game) Our team is called Pretend-co Entertainment. We are working to develop for Wiiware so, we did our homework on how one is able to do so. We found that you need to be an established studio with a few games under your belt. Not only that but your studio needs to have some recognition in this video game community. With that you also need 25K for the kit and i believe an office address.

Sucks that this guy was rejected, but he should have known had he done his own research, and not depended on the words from a speech desinged to get people interested. He contributed to a few games on the Wii and the GCN but has not himself released any titles under his studio name that belong to him, and thats what Nintendo wants to see before they hand out the Wii Kit.

Think for a moment, what would happen if they haned the kit out to people who just wanted to buy the thing. Im guessing that it would be used to give information to homebrew users for their own gain. Nothing really against homebrew, but im sure Nintendo wants to keep this the way it was when the NES was out, Only people who worked the proper way to be able to release games on a home console should be able to use these kits. No shorcuts, cause if you have a really great idea for a game and you are really good you would take the time to work for that status, otherwise you look very shaddy and unreliable.

I say good for Nintendo, Make it a challenge to get in. I dont want to see WiiWare flooded with clones of flash games that are very fun on a PC for a few moments at a time, as well as for FREE, but if im throwing down some dough for a game I want it think and with more options. Something worth tossing an hour into ya know? In all respect im sure some of his games where nice but if Nintendo said "Sorry its not you its me" than I wouldnt look into them. Sides, he has no products on his page other than the blogs about how he cant get the license.

Wouldnt you tell yourself "Man, I didnt get in. I really want to make games on the Wii. Im going to see what I need to do to get this license and work hard for it!" instead of whining about how Nintendo wount accept him based on what he states and an empty page.

Casual Wii games cost Ubisoft serious dollarz

May 22nd 2008 12:06PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
why is it always nintendos fault no one buys shit games? I wonder if it plays out like this sometimes . . . . .

3rd party developer -- "Nintendo!! We have this awesome idea for a game and we would like to know how to make the game great that would make your system sell more and our profits to raise and the land of milk and honey to return!! Tell us about your console and how it works, tell us about WiFi and how to get that in our game!"

Nintendo -- "No! you must figure all this out on your own!!"

3pd -- "Please nintendo! please!!"

Nintendo -- "Nope! We will keep the secrets to making good games for the Wii so that we may see all the profit to ourselves!!"

3pd -- "Ah well, lets push this game out with a bunch more game modes and say "Mini games included!" we can also throw together this game after many drinks and in only a week!!"

.... I like that story. BUT, case in point, I wanna know. Also, how are these development houses in business if they mainly make shit games? Are they just pulling anyone fresh out of some ITT tech school to write code and do artwork? sad sad. For indie developers we need to have a few well known games out (along wtih 25K) before getting the Nintendo license. Guess if you where established you can let yourself go haha.

Nutrition prof: Wii Fit is 'misleading'

May 21st 2008 2:49PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
"When you are physically fit, you tend to replace fat with muscle, and your BMI probably won't change,"

If your physically fit and a little kid calls you overweight do you run and cry? do you tell the small child "YOUR WRONG! Im physically fit!" NOPE!

Cause for some reason people still do not understand the goal of wiifit (To keep you active while having fun) its ripe for blame when people do not get results they want. If you work out prior to WiiFit and are in good shape, WiiFit isnt going to be the replacement to going to a doctor. Again, as Miyamoto stated "I don't think Wii Fit's purpose is to make you fit; what it's actually aiming to do is make you aware of your body." He created it to see how his family and he charted up in fitness. To see how they measured up after a day, a week, a month, and a year so on and so on.

Sides, if you take into account what a video game says (ie, the little skinny girl who was upset cause WiiFit said she was overweight, man, hate to see what happens when a young boy in love might tell her shes fat to get her attention) you SHOULD see a real doctor. There might be something more wrong with ya.

Greenpeace disassembles consoles, checks toxin levels

May 21st 2008 2:34PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
oh, forgot, sorry to DP

So, by Greenpeaces logic, we should all trade in our systems so Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo can replace our systems (That most of us invested a lot of money and time to) for greener electronics? Why stop there? I have an old Symphonic DVD/VCR player that im sure is killing my slowly with scary toxics and voodoo chemicals. Would they fix that too so that I could live maybe .5 years longer?

Howabout we stop buying . . .. . anything save food and we stop going outside (If we live in an area with factories or plants) so we can all stop harming the Earth, and ourselves. Sound good? How many toxins where in the camera needed to make that video? how many computers do they use to upkeep that website? Technology is part of humanity from its conception (Millions of years ago) to our end. Change the future before telling me that my way of living is wrong no matter what I do.

Greenpeace disassembles consoles, checks toxin levels

May 21st 2008 2:05PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
Greenpeace and any said group that points out the errors of others in what they do are sending the WRONG message. I live in Olympia, WA. one of THE most (if not one of the top) green states who looks after our beautiful land. Living in the town (Which is the college town of Evergreen State College, look it up) with a vast majority of "greeners" I hear this sort of stuff all the time.

Im not saying we should keep dumping and harming, but speading there message and information in this way is not going to work. Want proof? look at the above comments. Telling people the things they were raised with (This american society) is wrong is going to be met with strong resistance no matter what the topic. Dumping old electronics or using toilet paper that ruins whole communities (Look into that aswell :) shouldnt be explained with doom and gloom tatics.

Try it, your an older well fit person. You go to the doctor and get a check up.

A) The good doctor tells you that even if you are fit and eat right everyday, your going to die in a few years. You use to many toxic products and live in a state where no body cares of anything. Because you drank coca cola you allow toxics in your body, because you are around an area where there might be smoke your lungs arent as sound as a newborn. Because you sinned (For mother earth and your body) you will die.

or

B)Your very healthy! keep eating right and working out and you could live to a very ripe old age! Try to cut back on anything that could release toxins in your living area and youll be alright!

Which bit of news would you want to hear? Yeah, its pretty selfish to think of only yourself, but the core message? DONT tell me whats wrong without an answer. Or at least a way to correct or help set straight.

I understand yeah, the earth is getting worse and we all have to do our part to help it. BUT, telling us everyday that we do wrong or the things we do are hurting something isnt going to get anyone in gear to help, its going to make that person more inclined not to care cause they dont see a problem, they see a nagging group of people who like to bitch. Again, refer to the comments above.

Want change greenpeace? start getting the goverments to inforce better laws on what goes into future products. These systems are already out, and there are a vast amount of people who wount get that memo and just toss their systems to the curb. The poisons ARE going to seep into the earth even if you scream your message till your blue in the face. Change the future not the present. Its like people are still bitching about loosing money in the 80's. Be positive, upbeat and friendly and you will pull more people to your cause.

WiiWare games hacked, pirated, and brought to North American Wiis

May 5th 2008 12:06PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
To the comments on devlopers not having the funds to develop games.

"Nathew said...

well, not everyone has the $2,500 as well as the developing experience to become licensed nintendo developers..."

"Jeremy said...

I am a firm supporter of homebrew. Their are many great minds that just don't have the funding to make their product main stream. "

Doesnt that tell you something? They put that in place to keep people with . . . no developing experience . . . from flooding the market with their "after school projects." They have that price range for low income development "Studios" to get in the game. This is a career and last I checked almost every "Adult" in the US has to work very long and hard to get to the career they enjoy. Sure there are a few good thinkers out there in the vast sea of ho-hum coders, but that price and title are there to weed out those who are not that good.

You want to develop games on (Any) console? WORK for it. Not only do you need the 25 grand to get the licence but you need to have to be an established development "studio" with a few games under your belt.

I know i know thats way to much work for someone who might have one good idea for a game concept. Its too much for that one lone coder who can make a clone of an old arcade game with stock clipart and sounds. But see, for the smaller studios (x-gen games for example) its a small fee to get in the door of the video game equivalent of the major leagues.

And even still, there are a bunch of studios who are not as good as even the B ranked studios who have the license and can make any game they feel. Even they worked hard to get to that point why cant anyone else?

Homebrew has some good points, but in the end only the homebrew scene will support homebrew software. If you want to make your game development dreams come true its a very long road and that road helps you grow and mature into this career. If you dont go to school for this (or any) field of work then the climb to the top is going to be a bit steeper, thats how life works.

I say this because I an just an artist who joined a development team. We are working to get to that lisence to make games for the public. To say that homebrew is the cheap shortcut to making a career in game development is a slap in the face to all legit development studios and unrealistic. You miss out on so many steps that go into development that you would fail as soon as you are let go to release software on consoles.

Homebrew is partly illegal, you cant run homebrew code without exploiting retail software or hardware. The tampering with any software made by others is hacking and illegal. You may have bought it, but like music (Which even I dont understand) you would need to atain rights before releasing data such as that. Otherwise it will stay underground.

I had to say. . .

Point: The case against Wii Play

Mar 27th 2008 1:18PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
Hunter = Yes, it is possible to update Wii games. Even though many disagree based on the point of no storage space. Add-ons and updates could verywell be stored on the SD card and just be read from the card itself. If the game doesnt find any sort or update or add-on on the card then it plays normal.

A bit of a stretch but possible.

As for Wii play I love wiiplay. is it a game? yes. It provides interaction with a goal at the end. While not a game with a lot of depth they are still games. I for one enjoy the tank game and like to see how far I can get. My wife and I like to play through each game in contest sometimes aswell.

The main draw and the main factor in this whole ordeal(Which ive just read in an issue of Gameinformer. . . weird) isnt if Wiiplay is a game or not, but why people are buying it. People arnt buying wii play alone, they get the wii-mote PLUS wii play. THAT is the main draw for the game. Everyone who gets a Wii would want to dish out an extra 10 bucks for a few more mini games to play, why not?

The question is, why is it bothering so many people? if the Zapper was something that was needed to play smash brothers brawl and it was packaged the same you would bet that Links Crossbow training would be a no.1 game on a lot of lists, rihgt next to brawl. Why? not cause of the game itself but cause of the zapper.

just my two cents.
