How would you change Apple's iPad?

May 8th 2010 1:39AM (Engadget)
Having used this iPad since release day, there are things it should do, but doesn't.

1. The iPod app sucks. No wifi sharing, no internet radio, if you browse by genre (as with all browse options) it gives you on big unsorted list. Cosidering that Apple has iTunes and multiple iPods in the market, theres no excuse for the iPod app on the iPad.
2. The typing correction is far to agressive to be usefull and should be fixed so I can turn it back on.
3. No search in page in Safari
4. There's essentially no mobileme integration. Not that I care, but really now, there's no "back to my mac", iweb, idisk, et al
5. make available the entire iLife suite, with syncing for my Snow Leopard for single projects.

I love my iPad. It's. joy to use. I think in terms of software, Apple aimed too low.

/typed on my iPad, this keyboard isn't as bad as you think it is.

Switched On: Making book with ePUB

Oct 25th 2009 10:17PM (Engadget)
Books work with multiple forms of paper, can be sold by anyone, are unencrypted by default, can be sold or loans to anyone, can be found used for cheaper, and when the day comes that the copyright expires someone else can copy the book to publish it at marginal cost.

Or, I can buy a device that does less than books, while costing more and being less convenient. This is a solution in search of a problem. I wish them the best of luck.

SingStar's DRM is broken and needs to be fixed

Sep 17th 2008 5:08AM (Joystiq Playstation)
This is an inherent problem with DRM. You do not "own" the files, you are paying a one time rent payment. The moment you want to do something with the files outside the desires of the company that supposedly sold them to you, you are told you are thief and that you should do that. Just say no to all DRM in all it's forms. Let it fail

Apple's quality dwindling: My MacBook Pro sob story

You are aware that 18 million computers that shipped with the Nvidia chipset in your Macbook Pro are dieing around the world, right? Apple has been bit by the same exact hardware problem all OEMs are having.

Sony pulls 2.40 firmware update after reports of bricked PS3s

Jul 3rd 2008 2:43AM (Engadget)
Survivalism's recommendation is true. Whatever causes the freeze before the XMB loads is stored on the hard drive. The firmware itself is NOT stored on the hard drive, but obviously some settings for the XMB are stored on the drive. There are already quite a few reports on the forum of formatting fixing the problem and the PS3 boots into 2.4.

I can tell you this, Sony isn't going to save your data, they are going to format your drive, it's the easiest, fastest, guaranteed solution possible.

Sony pulls 2.40 firmware update after reports of bricked PS3s

Jul 3rd 2008 2:37AM (Engadget)
The PS3s aren't bricked. It is very possible to fix them without Sony's help. Format your PS3 hard drive, either in another PS3 or in a computer and put it back into your PS3.

Bricked means it can't be fixed.

Ask Engadget: What's the best home media server?

Tversity wins. Transcodes and then streams to everything.

Psystar says rumors of its demise are greatly exaggerated, still selling Open Computers

Apr 15th 2008 3:22PM (Engadget)
The 900 series from intel is about as basic as a video card gets. Even if you move it back in time to 5 years ago, it's still subpar in terms of quality.

Xbox 360 with Blu-ray to spark price war with Sony PS3?

Apr 3rd 2008 2:41PM (Engadget)
Oh, and the TF2 dedicated servers on PSN are run by EA, not people on PSN. The dedicated servers for UT3 on PSN are run by Midway (the publisher), though you can if you want run a dedicated server yourself, the PS3 runs cool enough to do that. Come to think of it, the only online game on PSN that I've played that doesn't have them is COD4.

My comment that TF2 is unplayable on 360 due to lag is true, try it sometime, it sucks. It's also a fact that it's VERY playable on the PS3, because of the dedicated servers.

You can discount all the extra value I'm getting in a free service all you want, downplay them, show how it "really doesn't mean much" or what not, when it comes to it, YOU'RE getting ripped off with XBOX Live and I'm not.
