Unnamed investor pulls its financial support for JoWooD

Mar 24th 2011 8:55PM (Joystiq)
@aawells07 Yeah. JoWood games always make me so sad. I always think, "Wow, this game would be great, if only it sucked less." The games they publish always seem to have so much potential, but utterly fail to reach it. I don't know how much of that is their fault and how much is the developers', but a lack of polish is often a result of time and budget constraints, which I can easily see being the publisher's fault.

The Witcher 2 Digital Premium Edition to have no DRM from GoG.com

@PointlessPuppies Whoa, hold on. I love CD Projekt, but they've released ONE game. ONE. Calling them "the best developer by far" is stretching it a bit. Without any real track record to speak of, they're not even eligible for the title yet.

Somebody should probably let them know that they missed the Zelda anniversary already.

Play with Dead Space 2 devs this weekend, earn special in-game suit

Feb 11th 2011 7:03PM (Joystiq)
@Raiki Yeah...I could make the later session, but I'm still working through the single player (almost done!) and haven't tried multiplayer yet. I probably wouldn't even get the damn suit even if I did participate.

@Bukster The PC version is actually $19.99 on Steam.

Dead Space 2 'Origins' trailer examines Clarke's universe (Isaac, not Arthur)

@Admiral White
In Dead Space 2, I find that I'm generally just as short on ammo as I was in, say, RE4, if not a bit more. I guess whether you consider RE4 proper "survival horror" is at issue there, though.

@Measlesopolis Another, slightly different idea: The necromorphs are basically colonies of single-celled or other small organisms that have invaded and animated dead tissue. To eliminate the threat, you have to reduce the size of the colony. A penetrating wound, like a body shot, removes a very small percentage of the colony. There are also no meaningful organs in the torso any more, so there's no reason to think that a body shot would do any more damage than a limb shot. On the other hand, when you separating an arm, you remove a huge amount of the colony, which is why it does so much more effective damage.

It may just be a game, and it may not matter, but it's fun to think about anyway.

THQ puts PC games on sale, including Metro 2033, Darksiders, more

Feb 5th 2011 11:16PM (Joystiq)
@xiLeShadow That's extremely interesting to me, because I have serious concerns about the way the THQ store works. I'll buy Red Faction Guerrilla and Metro 2033 if I can confirm that this applies to those games as well.

This is the dumbest thing I've ever seen. God damn.

Finally, an arcade stick for the fashion-conscious

Feb 2nd 2011 11:29PM (Joystiq)
I'm going to just go ahead and call this "hideous."
