Scenes We Love Double Feature: Predator and Predator 2

Jul 12th 2010 11:05PM (Cinematical)
So why is Poncho a token, but Mac is not?

Oh, and "Conan the Conqueror" - know the book, never heard of the movie. Did you mean Conan the Destroyer? This is a movie site yeah?

Monday Night Poll: Why Did You See 'Transformers 2'?

I really enjoyed the first, really enjoy seeing movies at Imax, really enjoy watching giant robots fight and really enjoy watching Megan Fox being Megan Fox.

TF2 offered a pretty potent cocktail of those elements so I went and saw it. It wasn't as good as the first, but it was still great fun.

Discuss: The 25 Best Movies for Conservatives

I think Ghostbusters was a good inclusion - the answer to its question about "who you gonna call?" was not "the government" but "small businessmen"! Plus, as stated, the EPA was the bad guy, and they only become Ghostbusters after losing their Columbia grant money (which Venkman was wasting on trying to pick up women) etc

People may not have been thinking about Bush/Cheney when watching 300, but the film's huge sucess did (IMO) show that there was a huge audience for films about soldiers willingly fighting for freedom etc. Same with Braveheart. I am happy to bet that if an Iraq or Afghanistan war film was made showing highly trained volunteer soldiers fighting and dying for a cause they believe in, it would also do very well. Compare it to the films we have actually got (hello Redacted!) and their box office success.

PS3 EndWar may support PlayStation Eye

May 29th 2008 8:58PM (Joystiq Playstation)
From reading further comments on this at eurogamer, it appears that:

1. They have to provide feature equality between the two versions.

2. They have been using the Eye of Judgment stand to hold the camera, then moving your hands in front of the camera is used to move the map around. The xbox camera doesn't have an equivalent stand, so they haven't been able to replicate it. Obviously they could rig one up, but they are game designers, not peripheral manufacturers.

It would be awesome if this did make it to the final version - hand gestures and voice control would mean a console RTS would almost leapfrog the mouse/kb controls on the PC.

The Censorship Battles Rages On in Canada

Apr 13th 2008 3:16AM (Cinematical)
Sorry, but it is an abuse of language to describe this as "censorship". Censorship would be banning films of this nature - not refusing them tax breaks.

This is just complaining from a bunch of rent seekers. The actors in the linked article accidentally show how ridiculous the argument is:

"Fellow actress Wendy Crewson told the news conference that artists in every country - except India and the United States - rely on public money."

Those countries are home to Hollywood and Bollywood - i.e. very successful industries - what a coincidence.

Who's winning: consoles or PCs?

Nov 27th 2006 12:49AM (Joystiq)
" One could conclude that the console market -- which is slowly pushing itself to match the PC in terms of variety and graphics -- is making the PC an obsolete machine for entertainment."

What a bizarre statement - how is the console market pushing itself to match PC in terms of graphics? Each time a new console comes out, it is usually as powerful as an mid-upper strength PC, at a much lower price point. From that point on, although smart coding can wring more performance out of it, it begins to become obsolete. The 360 is great, but an 8800GTX PC will blow it out of the water for graphics.

They each have their role to play, and for us lucky ones, we buy both.
