Isn't Brick-force in closed beta? At least in the States. It starts on the 28th of Feb.

Free for All: Old Second Life documentary still highlights truths

Feb 1st 2012 8:12PM (Massively)
I've been a second life resident (...) Since 2005. It's a game I take breaks from but I always go back. No game I've played has come close to the social atmosphere that SL has. I know it isn't for everyone, but I think that is why so many MMOs let me down.

@Celtar In your opinion, what would a game designed for adults be like? I'm actually curious.

Notch asks community for permission to track player data in Minecraft

Jan 26th 2012 12:17AM (Joystiq)
...why is it bad? He's asking if he can do it and programs like steam have been doing this for years. It isn't like he's diving in to your data and stealing your Pr0n.

Raph Koster: Immersion is not a core game virtue

Jan 13th 2012 11:11PM (Massively)
Depends on what kind of immersion you are talking about. There is the type, like The Elder Scrolls series, where it is just the player against the world. The immersion factor comes in because it is you... On the other hand you have immersion that comes from a multiplayer game, when you and your buddies are so focused on the gameplay that everything else drops out of site. Be it a coop game or a PVP game. On the gripping hand there is the immersion that comes from good story telling - an interactive narrative woven so tight that the world is gone in an instant. I think Koster is probably longing for an immersion that is more like The Elder Scrolls games, one that is found in open world and sandbox type of environments - be then MMOs or single player. I don't think that is lost, but I do think the MMO market has shifted away from it - yet you still have games like EVE Online. So... I dunno. The death of immersion, in this case, has been greatly exaggerated.

The kid succeeds: Bastion sales exceed 500K

@Matrixxxx Yup. I'm not the biggest halo fan either, yet I've had some good times in the series when I've played it with friends. So I can even enjoy games I'm not to fond of in a certain context.

@hotstew I disagree. I think the game is overrated and way to frustrating to be fun. Yet I also realize that many people like the game - but I don't. I also don't find the narrative compelling, though the visuals are decent. I do like the soundtrack and the nods to classic games of yore, but i find that Bastion is a much better experience.

I don't know how artsy it is - I mean I get where that comment is coming from, but honestly this isn't "artsy." It's a well made game with good combat, great visuals, a great soundtrack and a compelling story told in a unique way. It's fine not to like the game - people have different tastes - but to say everyone likes it because it is the flavor of the month is to denigrate the work that has went in to the project. It is obviously a game made with love and passion, something we need more in games in these modern times.
