Speaking as someone who has been consulting to content providers and delivery platforms (ie Studios and Cable Providers) for the last 2 years on 3D experiences/UI, I think most people on this list are taking the short view of 3D. I I have experienced many tech and content demos that will knock your socks on their asses. The inability to see potential in the future does not bestow expertise on its viability. Many 3D haters will be eating their words 1 year hence, believe it. You will never want to watch sports or concerts on TV in any other way after you've done it in 3D, and there's a lot more in store for sure. What many people are seeing as "new technology" now has actually been in the works/R&D for years, it's just that the results are only trickling out now - there is a deluge in the works, and Sony is just getting lined up for the inevitable.
Freakin' awesome game. Can't think of many sandbox games where you actually want to skip fast travel so you can soak up the environment and all its little surprises.
Beta was good fun, much more enjoyable and realistic battle experience than MW2 (and MAG, for that matter). The ability to operate vehicles is a big plus.
Forgot to mention the amazing job the environment team did on recreating 1940's Paris, not your typical repeating patterns, every area had a distinct architectural style that was amazingly detailed, from the Eiffel Tower to the seaside town of Le Havre. I probably only visited about 70% of the map, I'm sure there were many little treats to be found there.
"Perspective taking is an essential component in the mechanisms that account for intersubjectivity and agency. Mental simulation of action can be used as a natural protocol to explore the cognitive and neural processing involved in agency" (Ruby & Decety, 2001).
Simulating murder (whether RPG, FPS or otherwise) can make the action (agency) more attainable to one pre-disposed to perform it. It's not that games/simulations CREATE murderers, but it gives one with a propensity to murder and violence the ability to simulate the behavior repeatedly until it becomes as natural (and essential) as breathing.
Of course, this nuance is too much for the standard hysterical reporter and parent to understand.
I agree with the ban, it's Microsoft's prerogative as a violation of the EULA. However, they should refund any pro-rated balance on XBL, for sure, otherwise it's legalized theft.
