Yes, there's a boycott of Battlefield: Bad Company

Apr 8th 2008 11:44PM (Joystiq)
This is my spin, I'm a major fan of the Elder Scrolls series. So to defend Oblivion first... the DLC that came with Oblivion were mods made in addition to the game. You had the core game and the ability to edit and modify, make your own patches, missions, etc. They took their resources and made added content afterwards. If you look back at ES Morrowind. You had to buy Tribunal and blood moon seperately which includes added content. Nothing was unlocked per say. It was just entirely added on not unlocked much like the horse armor, the mage spire, the thieves den, etc.

Now onto Battlefield Bad Company... They want you to jump through hoops to unlock five individual weapons in what they call a "promotional" before the game even hits shelves. Then they want you to buy five more weapons at two dollars a piece, or buy an even more costly "Gold Edition". In the press releases they even state that the added guns do not influence game play. If they're saying you can get more guns that don't do crap for anyone, why bother having it in the game or available to download to begin with? It seems to me that EA is contradicting themselves and trying to con consumers into buying their product.

You can buy the game and give EA the finger on downloadable content. You can give both fingers to EA and just not buy the game at all. Like Doc and Lono alluded to, EA's testing the waters to see how gullible consumers are and to see what they can get away with. I'm for the boycott. No doubt.
