NBA Jam download included with new copies of NBA Elite 11 on 360 and PS3 [update]

Aug 3rd 2010 11:09AM (Joystiq)
@Vidikron

Fair points, but I still can't get past the idea that they're giving it away for free. If NBA Jam was a $10 DLC Addition, and you needed Elite 11 to buy it, I'd totally be on board with the WTFing. But by making it free, they're just choosing not to sell it on the HD platforms, and instead making it an extension of their NBA sim game.

It may indeed turn out to be a "bad move," for them business wise, and that's a fair debate. I just think it's unfair to vilify EA and claim that they're somehow acting in bad faith by giving it away in this manner.

What's wrong with you people?!? They're giving this away FOR FREE! If you want the Wii exclusive mode, buy the damn Wii version. If you don't wanna buy Elite but want the game, buy the Wii version. Don't own a Wii? Sorry that you can't play Wii exclusive games!

Consider this a game mode built into their new NBA game. I'm sorry you can't pick and choose certain features of certain games and get them separately for $15 on XBLA, but that's kind of how it always works. I'm sure that ODST Firefight XBLA game would have been a hit too...

Gaikai's Perry says OnLive pricing is a 'shot in the arm'

Fair enough, A.X. I agree that this is not a suitable replacement for hardcore PC players. It's prob. not even a suitable replacement for a console gamer. My point, really, is that it's potentially a more appealing alternative for someone looking to get into gaming, compared to dropping $1000 on a PC, or even $300 +$50 a year (~$4 a month right there) for Xbox. I think considering the service they're offering, it's not too much to ask that they charge a monthly fee to cover the back end.

And again, I have not seen it in action yet. If the graphics or lag are unacceptable, then this is clearly not worth it for anyone. I'm going on faith that this is not the case, however. For now.

Okay, so $1000. That's 5+ years of Onlive. And you don't have to worry about upgrading your hardware, which you most certainly will have to over that stretch. IF this works as advertised, and granted that's a big if, they say lag and compression effects will be minimal if not unnoticeable. If it doesn't work, obviously it won't be worth it. But if it does, seems like a reasonable cost considering what you're saving.

And if you don't wanna pay, don't get it. If enough people don't get it, they'll either be forced to lower the price or go out of business. I think insisting that they provide this impossible-seeming service for free, relying only on some sort of commission they get from selling the software, is absurd.

Well, you have to take into consideration that it, in theory, replaces a $2000+ gaming computer. I'm not sure it's worth it to Joystiq readers who already own at least a console and can play most of these games, but if they start packing this into cable boxes, as they wish to do, doesn't that seem a lot more appealing to your average consumer than buying another box?

I don't know if I'll sign up for this, but it's hard to blame a company for charging a bit extra for a technology which everyone assumed was impossible 12 months ago.

Indie devs struggle to find the perfect iPhone price

Jan 14th 2010 1:45PM (Joystiq)
$3, I guess, somehow, seems like a lot in a vaccum, but that's really splitting hairs when you think about it. I've played Canabalt on my iPhone hundreds of times, far outlasting anything else I own aside from Stoneloops. It's a ton of fun, and perfect on the go. Really hard to complain. What could you possibly spend that extra $2 on that would bring you more joy? Two more mostly forgettable iphone games, I guess?

Review: Left 4 Dead 2 (Xbox 360)

I could, but games are expensive, and I have only so much time to play the ones I already know I enjoy. I've heard these complaints elsewhere, and I tend to agree with Chris's opinions.

Review: Left 4 Dead 2 (Xbox 360)

This game arrived last night, and it's reviews like this that make me want to leave the plastic wrap on and send it back to Amazon tomorrow. I have a stack of incredible, unfinished games, and am faced with a serious and unexpected MW2 Multiplayer addiction. Worst of all, my "group" of L4D players were generally more casual gamers as it was, and I can see them all completely turned off by this.

This doesn't look fun. The setting is amazing and the concept is truly brilliant, I don't think I need this.
