It's not the first time GAME have done this it seems, there were reports of them doing it with supermarkets other loss-leading games they've sold. Smells of desperation to me. Given how ridiculous prices can be in there, i'm not suprised they're slowly failing and have resorted to such tactics.
The only way i'd ever buy from their stores is via some of their not so bad trade-in deals on newer games, but even then you could pick and choose between multiple stores who make similar offers. Their online store sometimes has pretty good deals too (at least eventually), but it rarely matches up instore.
"And what’s really sad about this entire situation is that if he had asked, almost everyone would have been willing to give him permission to use their mods."
Given the mass hysteria the modders are in over this, I somehow doubt they're the kind of people who would ever agree to someone making this pack regardless of whether permission was asked for (and that is of course their right...although legally their right? i'm not so sure).
Sure they deserve credit for their work, I dont think anyone would deny them that, but to start throwing things around like "this is illegal!" and getting the guys internet cut off, they lose all sympathy with me. The guy made a mistake not asking for permission but corrected it as soon as they said something. I'm sure given the effort put in, he equally loves the game and actually has respect for the modders enough to use their mods ("stealing" their work may be a weird way of showing it, but he obviously does).
The modders can carry on marching the village with their pitchforks though, it's clearly doing nothing but harming their reputation more than his.
@Mal F4cti0n, theres a difference between the iPad and the Kindle, the Kindle uses e-ink same as alot of ebook readers, its very different to the LCD screen the iPad uses (e-ink is incredibly easy on the eyes whereas LCD is not for long periods of use).
Its unfair to compare one product which does 1 thing its intended to do incredibly well (Kindle) vs another which aims to do lots of things, but does none of them all that great (iPad). If you're looking to read ebooks, an actually ebook reader is alot cheaper and also alot better at doing the job. As for the browser, the lack of flash also means a laptop/netbook is better at doing the job of browsing the internet. For working, again if space is a requirement, a netbook is probably the better option - the touch screen will not be kind to the fingers for extended work use.
As for the gaming aspect of it, again, as with the other things, sure it does it, but unlikely all that well, definitly not to the standard a dedicated console/handheld will do it, so i dont think anyone has much to worry about, at least not until Apple no doubt introduce newer versions over the next few years (then maybe they might improve on what they've done to at least get close to competing with dedicated products).
Its clearly not supposed to be in the game and is exploiting a mistake. Sure it's IW fault for messing the code up to allow it, but that doesnt mean those using it should get a pat on the back for doing it. Both IW and the players using it are at fault.
It ruins the game, if everyone starts using it, people will slowly stop playing it because it just wouldnt work - sadly there are far too many players out there who instead of spending abit of time to play the game properly and get good at it, they're so piss poor they have to revert to exploiting to try and get ahead. Worst thing about this is it only works by getting yourself killed...how cool!
I see this more of an empty threat so people stop using it while IW sort the patch out, but i have no problems with MS banning those using it...they all know its a glitch which they shouldnt be using, they'd get what they deserve.
Theres only 1 thing i'll agree that these things would be better off used for (and infact made with even less plastic), since i like a sturdy box for my not so cheap games, and its the MS Points boxes - currently they're the same size as normal xbox game cases, yet they're completely unusuable again as they dont hold DVDs in them (only the points card) - surely making them hold DVDs in would make them reuseable and not just end up in the bin.
If they dont want to do that, then just selling them in their card form would not only cost less to ship to companies, but would save on waste plastic and wasted space in warehouses across the world. I just dont understand how they thought it was a good idea when it produces so much waste along the production/delivery cycle.
Some of the suggestions on the twitter page are ridiculous. From the suggestions i've read, alot of them seem to want to make the game EASIER for them -- less visable snipers (and w/silencers), allowing multiple weapon attachments, the use of more perks etc.
It would cause the game to be way too easy to get kills, the perks and attachments on MW at least cancel each other out and seem pretty fair, its other things that cause problems. I actually like the dynamics of how the game works and for it to be so popular, it appears so do alot of people.
There should be a harsher punishment for host quitting (other than just counting as a loss) and as mentioned, a better spawning system aswell as countering modded controllers by making the gun jam if fired too quickly (its crazy how many people use modded controllers now, seems like everytime i play there's at least one).
Most of all, avoid making it anything like COD:WaW, especially vehicles and a kill streak bonus of something like dogs (helicopter on MW is annoying, but at least its easier to avoid or take down).
@Killr0y, It's not something thats really studied too much here, history is schools mainly focuses on WW2 and the likes of the slave trade (at least it did when i was doing it). There were points when they breifly mention details on the War of Independence (they possibly mix it around so not everyone is learning the same thing every year, so people may study it in more detail).
Whatever the situation though, its taught with details of us LOSING the Revolutionary War.
I dont think theres any reason for briefly studying only small aspects of the build up and then how we lost, just that Britains history is so great that they really dont have time to go into depth with alot of points as they need to cover oher things. Although we did learn about America during the early 1900's - the boom and subsequently the depression which followed (along with prohibition etc).
Toys R Us are already selling the Premium console with either COD3, PES6 or GOW for £199 anyways. They're pretty difficult to find right now though as they've sold out in most stores in the UK.
If you look around you can get the premium console for no more than £230 in most places (as with the PS3, that can be bought for the same price as the elite console at £329).
MS may want to keep their RRP, but most stores aren't sticking to it and are either selling it much cheaper or big bundle packs for the RRP of the console on its own.
Favourite scene is at the end when Dilios is doing his big talk to the army and the camera pans out to show the 40,000 strong army.
"Just there, the barbarians gather, sheer terror gripping tight their hearts with icy fingers, knowing full well what merciless horrors they suffered at the swords and spears of 300. Yet they stare now across the plain at 10,000 Spartans commanding 30,000 free Greeks! Ho! The enemy outnumber us a paltry three to one! Good odds for any Greek."
