I'm not going to lie and say that they look stupid because they're not in the original 151 Pokemon, so I'll go ahead and say it:

These Pokemon look pretty damn cool. Gamefreak is pretty talented at making their legendaries actually feel intimidating and all powerful. Well, they're all powerful until they're tucked safely inside of the master ball you had saved from halfway through the game, lol.

Regardless to if we think they're ugly now, we're still going to buy the games, and we're still going to think the starters are cool eventually.

It's happened with every new generation of Pokemon after Gen 1.
