Retro Studios taking a Metroid break

Sep 2nd 2007 1:41PM (Joystiq)
They really deserve the break. At first I was happy 3 was going to be the end, but now after I've played Prime 3(and loving it), I'm now sad that they are.

But then again, you can't stretch the prologue of the "in between" canons for too long. Just look at Star Wars.

Wii puzzler drops GCN controller support

That sounds cool. The classic controller is pretty much a gamecube controller without the rumble. But I bet it'll still be a little bit more fun with the motion sensors.

How important are first-party games to Wii?

Jul 20th 2006 3:25PM (Joystiq)
First party games should be priority. I mean you can't have a Nintendo console without Nintendo games, right?

Mario, Zelda, and Metroid will all be there. It's just the case on how often they'll appear and if Nintendo is willing to take the risk on putting these franchises into new territory.

However when it comes to 3rd party support, when Nintendo finally decides to make the game medium mainstream with the DVD, we're now facing a brand new control interface. While Nintendo opened one door them, they closed another one and ahead lies the challenges to develop for it. It's up to the 3rd parties if they want to make games for it or not, or better yet, be up to the challenge to do so. The wild card is there, but it's up for them to play the hand.

Should we consider the PSP dead?

Jul 19th 2006 5:00PM (Joystiq)
PSP isn't dead, it's just lacking the support that was promised 2 years ago.

I've had 2 PSPs and I just sold the last one to buy Nintendo DS software. Lots of it.Mainly all first party games by the way, like Animal Crossing. My Lite sits beautifully with it's DecalGirl skin and despite it's graphics not being as good as PSP, it really puts gameplay and innovation of the PSP to shame. And with all the triple A titles coming out for the DS this fall, plus the DSLite selling astromonally well, the only thing the PSP has to save it is the emulation. But who's going to pay a boatload of money just for one memory stick? Hell you may even need more than 1 memory stick to hold PSone games, unless the games are compressed of course.

Gamer product marketing gone bad

Jun 16th 2006 3:25PM (Joystiq)
I really, really hope they're getting paid equal to the amount of their dignity.
