Report: Hackers can pull credit card info from old Xbox 360 hard drives

@Spinout

It's kind of hard to find some information on this for some reason, but here's a good reliable source. See bottom: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc730730(v=ws.10).aspx

And it does seem to have been implemented since Vista.

@Spinout

You are correct. Sort of. Up until Windows 7 (maybe Vista) a full format did NOT write zeroes to the drive and the only difference was that it scanned for bad sectors. With this, information can still be restored. Now, when you do a full format in Windows 7, it does indeed write zeroes to the drive. Since the Xbox 360 came out before Windows 7 (as well as Vista), there is the possibility that the 360 can not format in this manner.

@KillerC Wrong. An Xbox could easily give you the option to do a full format on the drive which does write zeros to all sectors on the disk. This is what you do if you want to sell your HDD after use or before selling your old computer. Instead it only does a quick format, which many people think is efficient.

Sit down, relax and release some Rage tonight for $15 on Steam

They will refund you. As long as there was no warning on the game page that stated you wouldn't be able to play it (due to OS or system specs), then they will try to help you get it to work or refund you your money. They're customer support is usually pretty good.

Mad Catz shows off MLG Pro controller at CES, for the discerning button pusher

@Booyah74
I like the feel of the 360 controller; the curves match my hand perfectly, but the sticks are so stiff (especially when they're new) and shorty/stubby compared to the taller sticks on the PS controller which gives me more accuracy/precision. Also, sometimes I like to hold the controller with my index and middle fingers on the triggers and L1/R1 buttons and it's just not comfortable on the 360.

Ghost Recon: Future Soldier on PC replaced by Ghost Recon Online

Nov 26th 2011 12:11PM (Joystiq)
@roarkkokoro It's not hard at all to play the same game on the same steam account on different computers. You sign into one, then put it in offline mode, then sign in again on the other computer. The only problem you're going to run into is playing online, but that's because the game is going to look at which CD key is running online and might not let two different games with the same CD key run simultaneously. That isn't steam's doing. There would be no problem playing over a LAN though.

DICE plans to fix Battlefield 3's magic tactical light

Nov 15th 2011 3:05AM (Joystiq)
@30yearGamer I love spotting people! But yes, I really wish I would get more than a measly 20 points. I can help my squad out so much by doing so and save that many lives. I should at LEAST get half the credit for the kill; 50 points. Reviving a guy gets me 100 points, but making sure a guy doesn't end up in that position to begin with only gets me 1/5 of that?

@The Cole Train I agree. It makes sense you would be blinded in dark and low lit areas. Tactical lights really are bright enough to do that to a person, but standing out in direct sunlight shouldn't affect you as much as they currently do in the game.

Play dress-up with this new Soulcalibur 5 character creation trailer

@liquidsoap89

That game was awesome and I always thought that the character creation, as well as the game itself, was extremely superior to SC4. I feel like they got rid of a lot of options. Hopefully this one will live up to SC3.

Amazon: $20 off two PS3 Dual Pack bundles

@Sarge

Like me. Even though I have a PSP I never picked those ones up and I'm sure they would be better on the console anyway.
