Valve will release Dead Air early ... if 20K people unlock this Left 4 Dead 2 achievement

Jul 6th 2011 10:11PM (Joystiq)
@Foetoid I feel the same way, although I picked the game up on a sale for next to nothing some time ago.. The level of censoring is absolutely ridiculous. The day I install and play it again is the day it is restored to its intended form. If that's never, so be it.

Homefront, Singularity, Fallout: New Vegas and more highlighted in today's Steam Summer Camp sale

Jul 4th 2011 9:53PM (Joystiq)
Having never checked out singularity the sale was enough motivation for me to at least look at it and consider buying. Pity it is seemingly non-existent to Australian steam users.

If you guys reckon it's crap anyway I won't lose sleep over it, but regional exclusivity does really suck and makes no sense on the borderless internet. Publishers whine about sales lost to piracy yet they throw away entire countries worth of potential sales this way.

Free Klassic Noob and Smoke with Mortal Kombat Compatibility Pack 2

@Horsebird You could say that about nearly every post with a positive spin on any gaming news site, no?

'Let's Play' videos may soon make you a felon thanks to Senate Bill S.978 [Updated]

@Fullmetal Salchemist Sorry, but these are ways that many express and share their enthusiasm for their interests. An improvement to a site like youtube would not be to remove the content you're not interested in, but to improve navigation and cataloging of content so that you encounter as little as possible of what you're not interested in. More stringent naming and tagging rules and conventions might help, for a start.

German artist wants you to roll around in de_dust

Dust 2, dust 2!

The only problem with this being created as a public sculpture is that there will likely never be paintball tournaments held in it, which is clearly what it should be used for.

Worms: Reloaded $10 on Steam, new DLC unearthed

@edit Oh and er, when I say worms is "always great" I'm referring to the 2D games :p

Worms: Reloaded $10 on Steam, new DLC unearthed

Jul 1st 2011 6:58PM (Joystiq)
It's a great game and everything (worms is always great) but it runs like a dog on my machine that otherwise nails this year's more demanding games on high settings at 1680x1050. In fact, it's running worse than it did when it came out and was unpatched. When FPS are high they are high, but it only takes mid-turn text to come up and I'm basically at 0.1 . Hmm. An issue with x64 maybe? I don't know.

It kind of baffles me that it should be at all difficult to get a game like this, a game not much different to the one released in 1997 but at a higher res, running flawlessly on modern systems. It also kind of baffles me that they didn't just keep building on the older code and features (Armageddon, World Party) when they weren't going to significantly change anything. By now you'd think we'd have physics enabled collapsing structures and land, and any number of other funky additions.

Oh well. Still loads of fun, I just hope the next iteration learns a lot of lessons from this one and maybe has an interface that doesn't look like it was made for the sight impaired (or for iphones or something).

Minecraft 1.7 is out, pistons and deadly sheep added to the mix

Jun 30th 2011 4:37PM (Joystiq)
You fail at logical thinking, Dick. How is a pencil sketch any more an expression of the creator than a lego or minecraft creation? None of them serve a utilitarian purpose, they are simply different mediums through which people can creatively express themselves and share that creativity with others. I create music because it can inspire others. Well, plenty of minecrafters are inspired by the creations of others. If anything, games which encourage creativity are a lot healthier than linear games which hold your hand so much you could practically complete them comatose.

"Look, I made a comment about Minecraft and how it lacks any value and the people who like it have empty lives and..." ...and your values are not objective so your thinking here is the antithesis of impressive.

BioWare 'figuring out the right way' to continue Mass Effect after ME3

Jun 27th 2011 10:06PM (Joystiq)
The Mass Effect games have grabbed people because they're decent creations. That means you have something far more valuable than decent IP. You have the ABILITY to CREATE decent IP. So create something else! Don't waste time yanking the same teat. Life is short. Make it count.

Otherwise, you could just run with your original plan of releasing a graphics engine with a menu screen, followed by what might have been a game in a hundred unsatisfying bite-sized DLC chunks.

Double Fine obtaining Psychonauts publishing rights

Yes, bring on a HD RE-RELEASE! As well as anything else related to this great game.

About to start playing through my steam copy of this bad boy yet again. The PC needs as much DF and\or Schafer goodness as it can get.
