It's just a design metaphor, you can still click the words and the slider will slide over. FWIW it works exactly the same way in iOS, almost every slider still works as a button.

@JakePT Just occurred to me that the significance of this is probably nothing to do with Iron, but perhaps the 'Mass' part.

BioWare just tweeted a QR code that returns 001101010011010100101110001110000011010000110101, which translates to 55.845.

The only significance I can find for that number is that it's the atomic mass of Iron.
