SimCity comes to the iPhone

Dec 17th 2008 2:56PM (TUAW.com)
Quick Review after about 30 minutes in:

- It's Simcity 3000 on the iPhone. A full, faithful port for the most part. Not a watered down version. Electric grid, water system, schools, 3 zoning densities, traffic/crime/density/land value overlays, underground view, you name it, it's probably there.

- Terrain is always flat, which is a bit odd but makes building and zoning a lot easier.

- Controls are good, and a confirm system helps prevent placing something where you really didn't mean to place it.

- Stable so far for me.

- Terrain generator allows you to set % water and trees, although neither seems to work all that well as far as I can tell.

- All the budgeting, ordinances, and advisors that you remember from SC3K return.

All in all, it's a great iPhone game. Simcity fans will love it.

UNC Fan to Maryland Player(s): 'Go Back to the Ghetto!'

Jan 21st 2008 5:12PM (Fanhouse NCAA Basketball Blog)
I'd also be disappointed that some of those female Heels fans were crying after losing a basically meaningless mid-season game. We Terps respect UNC as a class school and partner-in-Duke-whipping. But crying after a loss is just very Duke-ish. Shape up!

PS - "go back to the ghetto" isn't really racist. If you've ever been to College Park it's actually pretty accurate.

Do Moody's and S&P have any credibility left?

Dec 26th 2007 10:40PM (BloggingStocks)
Not a chance. Who's going to rate debt? Fitch's is about to go out of business. Why trust Dominion over S&P and Moody's? There will be some smoke in the government, but in the long run the "problem" will be solved by the 2 ratings agencies modifying the way they rate CDOs (which are difficult to rate anyway). The credit crisis isn't due to the ratings agencies, it's due to overaggressive lending in the first place.

How will you spend your Apple Store credit?

#57 - wasn't a problem for me. I bought it in the Apple Store, not online.

How will you spend your Apple Store credit?

Sep 14th 2007 2:30PM (TUAW.com)
Already spent today on iLife '08 and a $15 iTunes card. Thought about the new keyboard... it's real nice!

Also, just to clarify, there are two deadlines being thrown around:

Sept 19 - deadline for $200 refund for those on price protection (bought iPhone on or after Aug 22).

Nov 30 - deadline to claim $100 store credit for those who bought iPhone before Aug 22

Lightning strikes twice for unsuspecting iPod users

I love how this podcast network uses Apple to drive traffic to stories, then proceeds to pooh-pooh and even badmouth their products. You should be paying them royalties for hits on this non-story.

Line report: iPhone mania!

Jun 29th 2007 7:00PM (TUAW.com)
Just got the LAST 8GB iPhone from my AT&T store. They also announced they were running low on 4GBs as I left the store. I was about 27th in line after arriving close to 4:30pm. So it looks like my AT&T store got about 40-45 phones. Don't know the split, but I would guess about 50/50 on 4 vs 8GB models.

Line Report: AT&T store, Union Square NYC

Jun 29th 2007 1:07PM (TUAW.com)
Was in downtown Columbia, MD for lunch. Apple store at the mall has a line about 20 deep, AT&T kiosk in the mall was empty. The AT&T store down Little Pax had no line at all.
