Full disclosure: I work for At&t as a sales person. That being said I still think these plans will end up being positive for the majority of our customers. I can say without hesitation that of the hundreds and hundreds of iPhones that i've sold, less than the 2% of the customers they are estimating would ever use more than 2gb/per month. I think this is a positive move on the most part for 2 reasons: 1) It will make the iPhone more affordable to more people. 2) It will save the majority of our existing customers money. Honestly if you use more than 2gb a month now, this change isn't going to effect you, and chances are if you are using considerably more than that you are probably tethering. Which, let's be honest, means you wouldn't pay the extra money for tethering anyway. Finally, if you actually believe Verizon won't follow suit within the next 30 days I have a bridge to sell you.
Why is this such a big deal? I think it's a brilliant move by Blizzard, and just because people are willing to pay money for and in-game item that has no effect on game-play whatsoever, does not mean we are about to see to world-changing apocalypse in the industry.
This is nothing new; I think people are just a little off put by the fact that this will probably be the best selling in-game add-on of all time and they don't have the money to buy it or don't play the game anyway. For all of you criticizing WoW players for buying this, you ought to look yourself in the mirror and ask why you payed $10 bucks for a full album on rockband/guitar hero, because I guarantee you the average wow player gets more mileage out of this mount than you do out of your DLC.
That being said, I don't plan on buying this because it's going to be common as all get out, and it doesn't offer me any advantage to what I already have.
Is it me or does it seem like this thread is full of shill?
Every time I see a thread about Sprint we see stuff like:
"... they have the best priced plans, unbeatable value. I save about $2000 a year over a comparable plan on any other provider. I'm taking Sprint to the bank, baby!"
or
"Sprint really does have it going on right now. The first 4G phone coming out soon (hopefully) and a great network. I've had Sprint for 7 years and am not planning on switching anytime soon, especially with the EVO on deck. Lets go Sprint"
I work for At&t and honestly cant wait for Verizon to get the iPhone.
1) It will take a ton of congestion off the network. 2) It will force us to be more competitive to gain business. 3) We might start getting some cool phones. 4) People will realize how much strain the data usage that the iPhone causes on even the best of networks. 5) I wont have to hear the constant whining from the blogosphere.
I have seen customers, in my store, with data usage in excess of 10gigs/month. And I work in a smaller city, I can just imagine how bad the bandwidth gets in a major city.
Not crying here, I agree with most of your points, but really I don't like the iPhone anymore.

Be less obvious, really.
