But there IS a new firmware...they just forgot to announce it!! In the pteview video they even say it was announced at gamescom!!!

Is Blu-ray's success too reliant on PS3?

Mine too - and it was my DVD player right the way through the DVD generation, it never went wrong, just kept going.

For me DVD was one of the big reasons for getting a PS2. Blu-Ray and DVD upscaling was one of the big reasons I went with the PS3.

Well, I for one prefer owning a physical product over something digital stored away on a hard disk - so for me Blu Ray is the future.

Right now Blu Ray is great, but expensive - so I dont have all that many, also I own a load of DVDs already. So it's a damn good job my PS3 is not only a Blu Ray player but a DVD upscaler as well! (os there anything Sony's big black box can't do? ;-) )
