Ni no Kuni bundled with 'magical' PS3 in Japan

Aug 31st 2011 9:17PM (Joystiq)
Who the hell translated "Ni no Kuni" as "The Another World?" It's definitely not an official Level-5 translation, that's for sure. The literal meaning is "Second World" or "World Two" or even "Country Two" (although "World" makes more sense than "Country" since the game makes it clear that it is different than our world). In the DS game, "Ni no Kuni" is a second world that the hero travels to, while "Ichi no Kuni" (the First World) is our real world.

I imagine that if this ever does get localized, which at the very least the PS3 version would be an awesome candidate for, the title would change to something along those lines.

Danbol Senki preview: Virtual-On Jr.

it's "Danbooru Senki" ダンボール戦機 which literally means "Cardboard War Machines" or "Cardboard Fighters." Which should absolutely be the English title. Or maybe something a bit more liberal like "Cardboard Combat?"

Warners to Adapt 'Death Note'

May 2nd 2009 4:48PM (Cinematical)
Death Note is one of the only manga or anime series I've ever enjoyed, and I'm intrigued to see what they do for an American adaptation. The description that you have given it, or that Wikipedia has given you, does the concept no justice. The storyline is a basically a meditation on the ideas of what is right, wrong, and just, set to an incredibly intense game of cat and mouse between the Death Note holder and the detective who is after him.

Personally, I hope it's a very loose interpretation where it puts similar moral dilemmas and cat-and-mouse scenarios onto a totally different American (or global) setting

Monday Morning Poll: Who Should Batman Fight Next?

Jul 30th 2008 12:27AM (Cinematical)
Let's get some issues cleared up:

-The Joker isn't coming back because Heath Ledger is dead.
-Harvery Dent/Two Face is dead, bringing him back would undermine the whole second movie.
-Killer Croc and Deadshot were both beaten during the "Gotham Knight" animated shorts that bridged BB and TDK.
-Scarecrow was shown to be pretty ineffective in both Gotham Knight and TDK.
-Christian Bale has said he will quit if they ever introduce Robin.

So I'm pretty sure we won't being hearing from any of those folks. I'm also pretty sure nobody will accept Nolan inventing a new villain (not including the Mob types), as no one would be interested. I think the most important thing is to think about who would fit both thematically and tonally with series.

Most of Batman's villains are just too cartoony to ever really work within the darker, more realistic framework of the series. Catwoman and Penguin would just be too silly, thematically, to fit. Batman Begins spent the whole film justifying a man in a bat suit, they won't be able to justify a woman in a cat suit or a man who emulates a penguin.

Similarly, Freeze and Poison Ivy just won't fly in Nolan's universe.

Of the major villains, that leaves the Riddler and Bane, both of whom are great matches for this series. I also like the idea of a Zodiac-style serial killer for the riddler, devoid of any comedy. Bane has been portrayed as physically superior to Batman and mentally similar to Bruce Wayne in the comics and I think he would be a perfect foil for Nolan's Batman.

Talia Al Ghul has been mentioned, but I think in Batman Begins the whole point of Ra's Al Ghul was that he was an idea, a myth, much like Batman himself. A man named Ducard dressed up as "Ra's Al Ghul" just as Bruce Wayne dressed up as Batman.

Basically, that means they're gonna have to choose Bane or the Riddler, and don't forget that the whole time Batman is going to have to be fleeing from a reluctant Jim Gordon and the law.

BREAKING: Guillermo Del Toro Confirmed for 'The Hobbit' Movies!

Apr 25th 2008 10:46AM (Cinematical)
"Hellboy" was not a good movie. The preview for "Hellboy II" looks equally as cheesy and stupid. "Pan's Labyrinth" is one of my favorite movies, so I'm definitely a big supporter of del Toro, but he is definitely not flawless. He does make great visuals and really creative sets, monsters, and creatures, so I'm sure that at the very least "The Hobbit" will be a feast for the eyes.
