Codemasters signs Ken Block for DiRT 2

Mar 31st 2009 4:30PM (Joystiq)
I prefer 'real' WRC spec rallying to that X Games dribble stuff. I know Travis Pastrana, Ken Block, etc have big fan bases at the moment... but hopefully they don't make the X Games fans the only market for this. Leave something in it to appeal to those of us who still love Rally the way it's always been ;)

Rumor: Xbox Elite being phased out, assuming 'limited edition' retail role

Mar 6th 2009 5:34PM (Joystiq)
Had an Elite since around when the first became available here in New Zealand. My Premium (20gig) had just RRoD'd two days prior, and my constant moaning to the misses about having to wait for the other console to come back convinced her I needed an Elite. Anyother thing that made me want it at the time was we had recently purchased a proper HD TV and I wanted to use HDMI. Back then, only Elite's had an HDMI port.

The funny thing is, is getting that Elite home made me forget about the Premium... It ended up taking 8 months to get the thing sent away. I like the Elite, as the black colour scheme suits the rest of our entertainment gear better than the white, and the 120GB drive comes in handy for demos, and retail games installed to the HDD etc.

Halo Wars includes final farewell from Ensemble Studios

Mar 3rd 2009 3:07PM (Joystiq)
I hardly ever heard people talking about how much they loved Ensemble, and their games, until Microsoft shut them down.

I wonder how many a genuine fans like myself, and how many didn't really give a shit until they got closed down? Wagon Jumpers perhaps?

All the same, it's a shame to see Ensemble go. They are the people behind some of my all time favourite PC games. And after spending some time on Halo Wars late last week, I feel I can safely say they may have gone out with their best.

Halo Wars just seems to work so well. I had my doubts how well the Halo world would translate over to an RTS game. An RTS game on a console to boot.... They really pulled it off though.

If you don't have Halo Wars yet, go and get it! :)

Joyswag: Halo Wars (Day One) [update]

Mar 2nd 2009 10:28PM (Joystiq)
It blows me away that us NZ folk were playing this on Thursday last week... It's an excellent game. So much better than I ever thought it would be. Changed my opinion that RTS games belong on the PC!

Good luck to all those lucky enough to be able to enter this competition :)

GameStop plans nationwide Halo Wars midnight launch events

Feb 27th 2009 9:44AM (Joystiq Xbox)
So Halo Wars won't be out in the States until Midnight on Monday? I'm in New Zealand and I've been switching between Halo Wars and Killzone 2 since Thursday (our time). Have us Kiwi's actually managed to get our hands on a game before the American's?

This would explain why so few (apart from Kiwi's mostly) on my friends list are actually playing the game. I was starting to think perhaps it had been a bit of a flop!

Joystiq impressions: DiRT 2

Feb 20th 2009 11:05PM (Joystiq)
I thought DiRT was built on the Neon Engine which was co-developed between Codemasters and Sony Computer Entertainment?

Codemasters have then moved further forward with Grid, which was built on Codemaster's own Ego engine, which is an evolved version of the Neon engine.

I would expect to see DiRT 2 built around either the Ego Engine, or a further evolved version.

Joystiq impressions: DiRT 2

Feb 20th 2009 10:59PM (Joystiq)
DiRT is still one of my favourite games, and DiRT 2 has me just as amped.

I've been a rally fan almost as long as I've been a F1 fanatic, which is over 20 years.

Can't help but be impressed with the way Travis Pastrana and Dave Mirra etc have brought Rally into the spot light. I have little doubt that Rally wouldn't have been included in X Games if it wasn't for Travis Pastrana!

Codemasters, don't stuff it up ;) And when's their F1 game coming? Anyone know?

See what you'll be ruining in Burnout's new DLC

I had already purchased the Manhatten Special or whatever it's called for 160. I've since picked up the whole pack for 640... Wonder if there is a chance of getting a refund for that 160 I didn't need to pay, as the full legendary cars pack never came up on my Console, otherwise I wouldn't have grabbed just the one car.

Is it cheaper to buy the Legendary Cars Pack or buy the new cars one at a time?

I purchased the 'Ghost Busters' car earlier via Xbox Live for 160 points... didn't realise there was a full pack to get them all at once.

Now I've gone to the Marketplace website, and see there is a Legendary Cars pack. All four cars for 640 points. Which is 160 points cheaper than buying all the cars seperately. Is this the normal cost, or has Microsoft just lowered the price seeing as I have already downloaded one of the included cars?

Richards, if true realisim (as far as a video game goes) give Race Pro on Xbox 360 a go or rFactor or the SimBin racers on PC a try. You'll soon realise the GT series is a long way for realisim.
