I used to hear this in raids all the time and it bugged me enough to stop doing them - along with the elitism that goes along with most raids, everyone knows how to do your job better than you do it seems.
In my FPS competition days, whenever voice chatter got out of hands just issuing the word "COMMS" used to clear it right up. Everyone knew that comms needed to be clean for calling out orders or enemy positions.
Not everyone wants to be the uber hero! Everyone does however want to be the very best at their profession. Crafters should be great for sure, but they don't necessarily have to be great warriors to be satisfied crafting in the SW universe.
Merchants are an attractive class in any game for those that want power of a different kind - wealth = power to many.
There are always new people joining the MMO subscriber base, so the number of subscribers will continue to grow, they will just be split up a little more. There really are plenty to go around.
WoW was Blizzard's ticket to just print money but that doesn't mean every MMO has to reach that level to be profitable. The downside to so many MMO's is that some of the lower budget models will probably keep their live team to a minimum to increase profits and end up hurting content and bug fixes.
This is a good example why end game play should not be soley based on world obtainable gear. The best gear in the game should be player made and should not be repairable. Big boon to the economy and a more level playing field for the end game folks who don't have the time to devote to raiding.
I don't think it's so much the characters that hooked me into believing this would make a good MMO. It's the universe, kind of reminds me of the early Star Wars. You know, the original ones where every ship wasn't shiney new like in the prequels. I think part of what makes the universe endearing is that everything is ragged and worn out. Ships need loving just to stay in the skies and there is that unexplored fringes of space feel to it.
