New Super Mario Bros. Wii arcade medal game primed for Japan

Apr 3rd 2011 8:32AM (Joystiq)
Why is this still called "New Super Mario Bros. *Wii* ?" It very probably isn't running on Wii hardware (not likely with 4-player splitscreen since they'd probably want to run it in HD).

I mean, the "New" Super Mario Bros series is already a multi-platform franchise, and especially since everyone and their dog has a DS in Japan, it's not like people will be confused as to the milieu of the game if they don't see "Wii" in the title.

Why not call it "New Super Mario Bros. Arcade" or something? They could still use the strong red coloring and all the familiar logos and images of the Wii title.

Sony: Kevin Butler isn't real, can't give interviews

Sep 17th 2010 5:36AM (Joystiq)
And yet he *did* gave an interview in this month's Game Informer. It was pretty stupid, and the magazine gave no indication that he wasn't a real person. I love the ads as much as anyone, but the fawning he gets from the gaming press is annoying.

I think people can easily guess that he's just a pitchman and not a VP, but lots of people think that he's a real person an his name really is Kevin Butler.

Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One coming to PS3 in Fall 2011

@Falcon Punch "Lacking in 4-player co-op," really? LittleBigPlanet2 is coming out this year.

But I, too, am pumped for more games to fuel the pizza/video-games parties with friends. We can't just play LBP and Rock Band all the time (although, with both games getting sequels this year, maybe it will hold us over until this once comes out).

iPod touch coming in a 'few weeks' with dual cameras and Retina Display, suggests John Gruber

Aug 10th 2010 9:26PM (Engadget)
John Gruber post = Apple Press Release/Hype Machine.

Just call this what it is and treat it as an official announcement. It's not like he's on the payroll or anything, but I can't wait to see how everyone reacts when he "scoops" the official word on the Verizon iPhone.

It's really annoying that no one calls him out on this. His blog is basically every snarky dig at Google or Microsoft that Apple wishes it could make in public. Notice how his Apple commentary is not written like a fanboy, but like someone who is desperate to be seen as unbiased, and he never really posts concrete opinion commentary until Apple picks a side in a debate (until then he's reliably wishy-washy).

Portal 2 delayed until 2011

Was that a Ghostbusters (crossing the streams) reference??

HTC EVO 4G will have a HDMI dock, sold through Best Buy

May 26th 2010 12:58PM (Engadget)
The dock looks classy, I like the red highlights. I know it’s basically a port replicator, but having a simple dock for my phone usually means the difference between charging it every night and constantly forgetting and letting it die, so I was really hoping for a good one for this phone.

Speaking of port replicating; what connects to the back of this thing? Is it another type D connector, meaning that we still need to buy a new cable for it? Or does it have a plain-ole HDMI port? I would find it hard to believe that it’s *not* a type D connector, since pretty much all phone/iPod docks use the exact same port as the device itself. Perhaps the dock will come with a cable?

What about the USB port? Mini or Micro? I suppose there might be some kind of unique/propriatary Y-cable that has USB and HDMI on the other end, which would reduce desk clutter, but I also doubt HTC would go that route.

This article implies a lot more information than it actually has, which is just a product image.

Marble Madness creator Mark Cerny to be inducted into AIAS Hall of Fame

Jan 16th 2010 5:44AM (Joystiq)
Anyone else notice that the filename for the PDF press release is "HOF-boilerplate.pdf" ??

Boilerplate refers to cookie-cut language in press releases that can be quickly (and often cynically) adapted to suit a repeat need or occasion, like a form letter or a mad-lib.

It can sometimes refer to the junk paragraphs at the end of almost every press release describing the organizations who are invovled, and they did more than simply plug in the honeree's name and the current year, but putting "boilerplate" in the filename of an award announcement is a bit of a revealing gaffe.

Your loss. I certainly am.
