It's Ace Combat's great pumpkin DLC, Charlie Brown!

Frankly, this game is terrible, and the content is far overpriced. No wonder most reputable sites have given it bad reviews and the sales have been crap.

Ace Combat: Assault Horizon review: Old dogfight, new tricks

@jtsuth

That's like saying, "I don't like FPS games because the enemy doesn't just sit in my line of sight and let me shoot him." It's kind of the point that you have to be *good* at the game, so you don't lose enemies every couple seconds, eh?

Ace Combat: Assault Horizon review: Old dogfight, new tricks

I honestly don't understand the positive reviews this game is getting, considering the changes they've made to the game. Ace Combat has never been about simulation; instead, the series has been good at making you 'feel' like you're a fighter pilot without the hassle of learning instruments or worrying about having a realistic amount of ammunition or fuel. That's the Ace Combat we all loved.

It's impossible to view the mandatory use of the dogfight mode as anything but an immersion-breaker: by flashing "press button to enter mode" on the screen at certain moments, one is instantly taken out of the cockpit and back onto the couch. Then, once you actually enter the mode, your view becomes third person and you no longer have even basic control of your plane. Hell, fighters do not even fly that close to buildings or the ground, and the whole spectacle looks as stupid as it plays.

The helicopter mission in the demo was also repetitious and dull. It's simply, "go here, eliminate TGT enemies, repeat, repeat, repeat". Hell, you can't even crash your helicopter into the ground; it just bounces around like it was made of rubber.

And because of the regenerating health in the game, as well as checkpoints every two-three minutes or so, there's never a sense of danger or threat.

It's obvious that this was made for the casual market, and those who care little for consistent design and immersion.

Aussie military using games to attract recruits

US Air Force here - of course Australia has a military, you geniuses. I saw it when I was in Kandahar, Afghanistan. Show some respect for our boys down under who are helping us with wars they didn't have to.
